*2 Vids* Is this normal y-pipe noise???
*2 Vids* Is this normal y-pipe noise???
Taken with a 2 megapixel canon powershot...
This is me turning out of my neighborhood and flooring it up a very big hill. (Newnan crew can verify this heh). You can barely hear it in this vid. It is the high pitched noise after 3000rpm in first gear and then a little bit on the 1-2 shift:

OK this vid sucks but you can hear the y-pipe noise very clearly. Same rpm range and also at 1-2 shift:

...And before someone tell me to fill up:

Thanks

at the very beginning of both clips when the car is haeding towards redline
the sound is alomost like something is loose - there is metallic sound... whether it is exhaust leak and pipes or banging or if the valves are tapping idunno
if you have a set of headphones there is no way you can miss the noise
if this helps... listen for any noise other than intake GROWL ....sounds like something is coming loose is the only way i can descibe it
i know it's not the best quality sound. I really need to set up my tripod and real camera and get some outside shots
that way i could tell real quick if it's header leak or valves or nothing at all

1. remove headshield above your flex section to the b-pipe
2. remove the prongs off near the y-pipe supporter
3. cut off the cross member that is almost touching the flex section
4. get exhaust wrap and wrap your flex section

ya what he said. if your buying header wrap you might as well wrap the whole darn thing imo.
Sounds like the Y pipe is hitting the catalytic converter heat shield. Get under there and give it a few shots with a hammer and bang it out the way. Mine did it, it sounded like a loose piece of metal banging around.
Its not safe to drive that fast wet roads
but none-the-less my pipe done the same thing..... except i took it to the exhuast shop since im not very good w/ mechanics / i can't fit under my car?
they told me that it COULD NOT be where the y-pipe meets the cat converter its just too stiff (i argued for the longest) ,, but when they removed the old pipe a couple months ago it was attached to this clip between the front wheels... they cut part of that off and it reduced it a bit..
still makes the noise.. just not as much......
so i don't know what it could be................... they told me it was prolly the hose clamp i put on my b-pipe hanger to keep it from hitting that bar thing..
ive removed the headshield from the cat - b-pipe
