Time to shave?

Well, its been a while since I did any modding to my car. I love it lots and think it is really quite biznitchin set of wheels... So much so that I am considering making it look a bit more distinct. The idea of shaving came to mind. However, I dont want to look more attractive to cops. And I like the name Maxima. So Im thinkin of just removing the Nissan 'hamburger'. Problem is, I like Nissan as well. Hmm. Bit of a connundrum. What should I do to make the car more unusual but cool looking?

It will be one sad reason for the fuzz to be attracted to your car becaused you shaved your letterings. (gang sign? haha) That must mean they have nothing better to do, like catch the people we like to call "criminals."

I agree...shaving it leaves a huge, flat, empty space on 97-99s. 95-96s need it though...and the contours on the trunk make up for the empty space.

hmm i was thinkin it over and does anyone know what years have M A X I M A spread out? because i like that but i don't like MAXIMA when its close. so if your enblems are close then i say shave it but if there spread out(like mine) leave it and shave your key hole and maybe antenna. maybe this is the diff in the 95-96 and 97-99?

Hmm.. It would look kinda nice shaved now that I think about it and especially after that pic of the black max with the kit. What a ride OMG...

Photochopped...

Hmm... almost got the dental floss out to start shavin!

Actually I can't shave the keyhole. Unfortunately the trunk doesnt pop anymore... Funny thing is I noticed it after a particularly hard driving session at Thunderhill... I guess I bent the frame?

Happy Rice FOB- Im gonna hook up with Daniel and do the MEV in 2 weeks! Gonna hit the track one more time to see the best 1/4 time I can get w/the USIM. First attempt was not a good indicator! (sniff)

And dude the RAM air is kewl! No need to mod it! I wrapped the whole intake with insulation

95-96 have the spread out maxima where 97-99 have the close ones.

cheers!

For some reason... I like the 97-99 shaved rear better than my 96. I shaved off "maxima." I'm gonna shave the Nissan too.

Who's shaved their front end? What's it look like?

Don't shave it, it leaves too much blank space. What I was thinking about doing on my car was losing the maxima and original Nissan emblem and getting one of the newer larger Nissan emblems. I haven’t photoshoped it yet but I think it might look pretty cool and make the car look newer.

Why dont you shave the nissan emblem first, so that you have just the MAXIMA, then if you dont like it shave the whole thing off. You might as well do that since you were going to shave the whole thing off in the first place.

How are you guys shaving your Nissan emblems? I got all this rubbery gunk underneath the plastic and GOO GONE isn't working too good. It's looks so ugly right now.. I need help fast.

Before using the GOO GONE you need to scrape off as much of the black/grey tape stuff as you can because the GOO GONE is only designed to work on the adhesive underneath it (use your fingernail or one of those plastic bondo spatula tools). If that doesn’t work I recommend trying a stronger solvent that is actually designed for this purpose. 3M™ general purpose adhesive remover or 3M™ Woodgrain and Stripe Adhesive Remover work great, they are about the strongest solvent you can use on car paint. You can probably find one of these at an automotive or hardware store.

I have always thought shaving any emblems(except those g a y ones that the dealer sometimes puts on the the back) is ugly. I mean, why don't you want people to know it is a maxima that is flying by them?

Well, I always thought this until I saw that black one posted up a ways. That thing is fine, and I cannot argue at all about how it looks. Good body kit, perfect drop, nice wheels, nice paint, everything is perfect.

BTW....I have a 99.5 and the M A X I M A is spread out on mine. I think it is the 95/96 that are close together.

Just shave off the hamburger at the top you already have one in the front. The maxima on the back is the only one that you want people reading when you are passing them.

95/96 maximas are spread out, your's are close and connected, you have it backwards.

props to Jepth20 for all the research he did. ha ha
Well, they looked spread out to me. I guess I have not really seen that many 95/96.
Thanks for setting that straight.
Regardless, I like the way it looks like mine with the emblems on there.

Research? You kiddin me?

Jeeeezz - 95/96 have actual spaces in btwn the letters. "M A X I M A"
97-99 are connected by tiny extensions to make the emblem 1 piece "M_A_X_I_M_A"

it aint that hard........

Cops :-/

Hey i voted "Do something else entireley for a more distinct look (post answer please)"

I feel you on the whole cop attracting thing :-/ I to want to do some cosmetic mods that wont get the cops on my ***...

if you're having second thoughts about shaving the emblems then don't do it (i haven't yet.. although i think shaved 4th gens look pretty good).

My other thoughts for minor mods would be blue xenon headlights because they look reaaal nice (but from what i hear they are crazy cop magnets... my friend gets stopped all the time with his G35, according to him it's cause of the lights.. lol)

and also i think re-wiring the bumper lenses looks pretty good... here's a tutorial on someone's cardomain page:

http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.ph...howpage&pid=53

- good luck

OK... well- heres what I did. I think its cool but then Ive always:

1) Been a bit unique
2) loved the movie Spinal Tap
3) Wanted to get a distinct look going

so voila! I know some people will hate it but all I can say is:

"This one goes to eleven!"

and believe me, it DOES! BOOYA!!

Oh well, at least it's unique.

nice and...different

not my thing but definitely unique!

Dude you should rewire your fogs next so that they turn on COMPLETELY independently of the other lights! I just did it and I love it already! Freedom!

(thanks again for the consulting Jeff)
