Need to quiet down exhaust!!

I have a warpspeed y/pacesetter s-pipe/dynamax super turbo muffler and it sounds great, good deep tone not raspy at all, but the wife and kid think it's too loud. I agree to an extent, it's mostly the deep booming resonance at certain rpm's that are annoying. Does any body know whether putting on a larger/stock resonator will solve this problem?

Go back to stock muffler or get a quieter. Most of the resonance will be coming from that, probably. Is your b-pipe resonated....like happyricefob said? If not, you need this to keep that noise down.

yea resonator on B is the key. HAHA I bet that your set up (basically all open right?) is really loud.

An all open system is not necessarily loud....just depends mostly on the muffler.

Yeah, b-pipe has a resonator, not very large though, much smaller diamater than stock. Brought it to the muffler shop and the guy said resonator won't help, the one that on there is fine, waste of money because of the type of muffler. I think the resonator is mostly for high pitched, annoying raspiness. Thinkin about 5th gen muffler.(so freakin expensive though)

there was a 5th gen muffler for sale by Y2KseSteve, but i think he got rid of it...but u can stuff the muffler with steel wool and put on some mesh on the tip and clamp it down so it don't come out...

I got a 5th gen muffler on my car right now. I got it from someone for like $100 shipped. It is pretty much new. He took it off his car right when he got it because he put on an aftermarket exhaust.

You could just put a 4th gen stockie back on there and probably not have any trouble. I mean, it might cut down the flow very minutely, but it would sound a lot quieter and better, IMO. You ought to try it out.

yeah, never heard of that method. I don't know about that one.
I don't even know what that would do to quiet it down.

I just think you need a different muffler. you might want to see if the frankencar one will work. It will quiet things down considerably

Muffler shop has a universal (I think) OEM replacement. They said it will quiet it down to stock levels, I hope. It is not a max muffler but same idea, only $40 compared to $140 for generic max replacement. Does it matter that it is not maxima specific? This exhaust business is gettin kinda expensive!!!

A resontaor would make it alittle quieter but not much cause i got one and my car is still loud as ish, and dont go bac kto the stock 4th gen muffler, it will sound like crap on bad day with full exhaust and stock muffler, it makes a horrible putter. Try a 2k2 muffler but i never heard one in person.

I recommended going back to the stock 4th gen, but I have never heard it. I wouldn't think it would sound all that bad.
However, I have stock 5th gen on mine, and I love the sound. It growls a little, but not too much.

I have a full exhuast with stock 4th gen muffler. It sounds really crappy, especially when I down shift into High RPMS, it sounds like a peice of metal is being pinballed around inside the mufler. I'm talking about the super putter. Its grotesque.

I have a Warpspeed Y and B pipe setup with the stock muffler. It is much more powerful than stock, but not much louder at all. When I say not much, I mean so close to stock that NOONE knows that I have ANY exhaust mods.

I had an aftermarket muffler on there until a few weeks ago, and it was a LOT louder but the power difference was not noticable. I would look for a good low-mile stock muffler.

would a silencer or a silencer type muffler do anything for you, when my friend puts his silencer on his eclipse it sounds almost stock.

+1
Nobody can really tell that mine had been modified. (other than the looks of the 5th gen muffler, but if they don't know what to look for, they don't recognize it)
I also have considerably more power.
