My CEL came on twice in the past month. Code 0701 Multiple Cylinder Misfire. After the first CEL came one I poured in a bottle of Chevron Techron into the gas tank (I do this every 3k miles anyway). Fuel economy went up 2 mpg and I was expecting the first CEL to be an isolated incident but 1000 miles later the CEL flashed again. Both times it occured during freeway speeds (75mph). When the CEL flashed there were no symptoms to indicate the problem (multiple cylinder misfire) other than the CEL itself. It ran smoothly throughout.

I tried doing a google search and found that it may be the crankshaft position sensor(s).

I have a feeling it will come up again so I want to fix it because I'm planning a 1000mi roadtrip soon and I dont want to be stranded.

Anyone else ever had the 0701 Multiple Cylinder Misfire code? If so, what was your fix?


(and yes I read the ECU fault code diagnosis and one poster pointed at the Crankshaft position sensor as the culprit but I would like other people's input thank you).

 

Spark plugs, Coil packs, Fuel injectors.. could be any of the three.. test all with a multimeter.
