FSB Bushings ?'s

Yes, I said Front Sway Bar. Has anyone replaced these on their Max? Difficult job? Any tips?

Thanks in advance!

On a side note I installed the ADDCO RSB last night, and WOW, what a difference. I would highly recommend this mod to any one who doesnt have it.

No. Nobody really does this mod if you have Rear Sway Bar because it is practically worthless.
Have you noticed any big change?

I personally think the FSB endlink bushings are overrated. The stock rubber is so compressed that there's not a whole lot of slop there. Not worth the effort in my book.

I dont know why you would just jump in and say this mod is "worthless." My car has 175,000 miles on it. I can see gaps in between the bushings and the FSB parts, so obviously they are beyond worn out and need replacing. I do notice a considerable difference in handling with the ADDCO RSB, but think the front end could be tightened up with new bushings. So to me this mod is not "worthless."

I am not simply trying to buy all the mods that could possilby fit on my car. I simply wish to restore the suspension back to the way it was.

Well, whenever a stock part no longer functions correctly, it certainly is NOT worthless. I never said that. I just don't feel fsb endlink bushings are a noticeable improvement over functioning stock ones. That is just my opinion though. I'm sure others will say they get a much more prominent understeer...

Understood. I just didnt want people thinking I was a noob and didnt know what I was talking about. I try not to mod my car unless I feel I will benefit by making it more mechanically sound car. There is is no point in my speniding huge $$ on a car with 175,000 miles on it. I am saving those $$ for the new Max I am going to buy later this year. FYI, I will be keeping my fourth gen as a daily driver so it will need to be in running order. Driving till the wheels fall off.

Another thing. I think, if I am getting my steering right, that now I am feeling over steer after installing the RSB. Hence why I want to change the bushings. There is a turn right on the way to my work that I try to take a little faster every day . Usually the back end would start to break free, but now after the RSB its the front end.

So,

Back end breaking free = under steer???

Front end breaking free = over steer???

Please let me know if I am wrong there.

Adding the RSB does not make the maxima an oversteering car. However, it will have less understeer. In fact, under too hard of a corner, you can (dangerously, and surprisingly with little feedback) break the rear end free where perhaps it would not have without the RSB. So although the RSB may make the steering more neutral, it is a dangerous thing at the limits. Stiffening the front sway bar in any way will only enhance understeer.

BTW, if all that is wrong with your fsb endlink bushings is that you see gaps between the two bushings on each side, you can try tightening up the top nut to squeeze them together more. Just a thought.

I wasnt really debating wether I was going to buy them or not. I simply asked if it was an easy job to do. Anyway, they are bought and on the way.

lol, helpfull thread...we gota work on the arguing a lil tho

BTW, this may be a little off topic but, when you are re-doing the struts on the max... (im getting KYB AGX, with Ground Control Coil-overs....going froms stock to this) is it a good idea to change these bushings? or are the bushings im thinking about on the front strut tower bar? sorry for the newb questiong but im confused....

and how do you "Stiffen" the front sway bar?

this would be a good time to kinda inform me what the difference between sway bar and strut bar is... lol

FSTB/RSTB goes from the top of one strut to the top of the other. Basically it ties them together. This makes for better steer by dampening the chassis flex.

FSB/RSB mount on the bottom side of your car basically from one control arm to the other. These dampen body roll that you experience in cornering. I wouldnt replace your front bushings unless it really needs to be done. There are no gains by using aftermarket bushings to replace working factory bushings.

You can stiffen up the front more with a Lower Tie Bar.
