Planning on selling my car...How much should i ask for??

Well, im seriously thinking of selling my car. Im starting to do college more seriously and starting to take more classes (4 in the summer) and i just dont wanna keep making payments (400 and change a month..including insurance). I want something substantially cheaper, but just as easy to mod. Anyways, here what i got so far off the top of my head in my car

-Budget Y
-test pipe
-custom B
-Flowmaster dual exhaust
-B+G springs
-otto racing CAI
-Exedy stage 1
-lil system (2 12" rockford fosgate punch HEs, Clarion deck, JBL components, sony amp)
-102K miles
-5speed
-Brand new tires
-Brand new brakes
-Sunroof, cloth, non-climate A/C
-Body is in decent condition, some dings etc...
-other misc things (AE lights, clears, chome kit underhood, blah blah blah)

i was thinking like 8000 OBO, what do you guys think??

You might want to part out some of the mods first, ones that won't really boost you're sale price if u still have the stock ones to replace them with. Then try to sell around that price maybe 7 k, I got my '97 completely stock with 91k for $7500 if i saw a modded max with the same mileage I would not pay more for it. thats just my .02 good luck with the sale

First of all:
How much time do you have to sell it? If you have some time (a month or so), I would ask $8900. Don't be afraid to get what you honestly feel the car is worth. Having the nine in your price is psychological. 8990 sounds a lot better than 9000. It makes a potential buyer think he is getting a really good deal.
After all this thing is still a 99.

Second, you should part the goodies out (assuming you still have the stock parts). Some of them will not be removable, like the shocks, but try to get others out and sell them separately. You have to realize, that to an average Joe this will be a turnoff to see all the upgrades.

How old are you, if you don't mind? If you are a youngster - another strike against you.

One word of advice. Selling your car is just like putting up a marketing campaign. You have to understand your market and adjust to it. If you have a young gun looking at it, show him the goodies and let him know how much they would normally cost to put on. If a 30+ family man, tell him about how reliable and well taken care of this car was.
But don't lie. If you redlined it about 10 times per day, don't say that your grandma was the main driver of the vehicle.

I think you can get mid to high eights for it if you come across the right buyer and sell wisely. Good luck.

Yes, i am a youngster - 18 to be exact. I figured this would be a turn-off since we inherently are aggressive drivers.

I dont have TOO many goodies that worth parting out. I mean, i cant take out my B-pipe, since its custom and i dont have my stock B or stock rear-section. Also, have a hole for the dualies, so cant convert back. About the only thing i can take off is the Y-pipe, Cat, and CAI. I will offer the potential buyer the option of taking the stock Y and cat.

Also, ive checked the KBB...and well...not good news for me. Its worth around 7100-7200-ish give or take. I owe a bit more than that unfortunately. Im gonna be crunching some numbers within the next few days. I want to get rid of it fast, but dont wanna get screwed.

Ahh, the beauty of a paid off car. You can sell it to me for $2. Seriously, I agree that mid 8K would be good.

No, the car doesnt come with nitrous.

I havent went to the track yet, i recently found out i have a bad axle, dont wanna risk breaking it at the track with 300lbft of flywheel torque and all. I will be going shortly as a last hoorah to see what she really runs. Im expecting 13s of course.

And no, that above post is NOT why im selling it. That was the cat that was coming apart somewhat, its since been replaced with a straight pipe and its all good. I just dont want to have the burden of a bigger sized car payment as im starting to get serious about college. I'll save the nicer cars till after college when im earning the big bucks.

Im looking into purchasing a 95ish Ford Probe GT again, it was the car i had previously to my max. Its a cheap, very well made car that has all the potential the max has. Plus, i like the looks more. Suits me. And i can swipe one up for around 3K, much more affordable than the 8K i owe on my max...

Dude, just get a few years older max for quite a few less. That will be a whole lot more dependable than the Ana.l Probe GT.
Kelly Blue Book is crap though.
Here is what Edmunds says about it:

1999 Nissan Maxima 4 Dr SE Sedan
Trade-In Private Party Dealer Retail
National Base Price $7,826 $9,253 $10,739
Optional Equipment $498 $595 $769
Bose Audio System $206 $246 $318
Keyless Entry System $40 $48 $62
Power Moonroof $206 $246 $318
Alarm System $46 $55 $71
Color Adjustment
Gold $34 $40 $46
Regional Adjustment
for Zip Code 39042 $-57 $-67 $-78
Mileage Adjustment
102,000 miles $-1,583 $-1,583 $-1,583
Condition Adjustment
Clean $0 $0 $0
Total $6,718 $8,238 $9,893

The mileage gives you a pretty good hit, but the rest is all right. You ought to be able to get in the 8000's range for it.

I figured up that you have like $1425 worth of mods right now. I know you said you could probably not sell all of them, but you could try to sell some of them.

Really, your best bet is to get someone that likes the mods interested and upsell them to him. I mean, tell him what they are worth and you should be able to get at least another 700 out of him. It is a good car, and you have done a lot with it.

I would not take any less than like 8K for it as it site, and no less than about $7500 for it without some of the mods you have right now.

Keep us posted.

I have a little bit of an advantage in that area.....My slip is sitting at home in a file.
I own my max outright.
I am glad too, because the car market and the depreciation that follows it is unreal. It will just scare you if you look at it.
