Which SparkPlugs???
Which SparkPlugs???
Hey Maximas!
I've got a question.
I need to install new plugs and according to Chilton and Nissan book and dealers, I have to install NGK Platinum only which run about 11 bucks.
Now, I've called a store called a Rising Sun, here in San Diego, they supposingly carry only imported japanise parts. The technician recommended NGK Irridium spark plugs for even less then that - 6 bucks. Lots of money to save, but will they work the same as Platinums????
He said that Irridiums don't last as long as double Plattinums but actually give a little more power.
Is that really true?
Your answer is really appreciated :-)

No no no don't get those. The NGK copper (BKR5E-11) are a better choice. They are cheaper and provide a colder spark. They do last only 30k but it is better than having to pay $11 for each plug.
Go to OReilly's they sell them. But you will have to ask them by the number that i gave you cuz if you don't they will give you a copper that is a step colder. That one is only used for high performance AKA NOS, s/c or turbo.

what's the best place for the BKR%E-11's? I went to Pep Boys and Autozone and they didn't have them. Maybe they could specially order them but I'm not sure if the web is a cheaper way to go?
Also, I've heard a little about those grooved or v tipped coppers? Remember a post about it at some point a little while back. What's your opinion?

Thanx guys.
I was trying to stick to the factory ones, which are plattinum, but they cost a lot. You think dealer will have copper ones? Or I have to go to OReilly's for copper? What is their fone number or web-site?

Your spark plugs have nothing to do with your coils going bad. The coils on the 4th gens(particularly the later model ones like mine) are known to go bad anyway. They were defective when they put them in there. Supposedly, Nissan has corrected the problem, but a little late for us 4th geners.
On a different note, I don't know why you think not spending unnecessary money on stuff that is not required is "cheaping out like this"? I mean, the coppers are 1/3 the cost and you only have to change them twice in a 60k mile interval rather than once. Is that really worth $54 more every 60K mile interval? I don't think so.
The NGK coppers are proven to be just as good if not better than the plats. They actually conduct a little better. To me, I will spend an extra 20 -30 minutes every 60k mile interval to save $54.

So, where can I get your copper sparks?
Do u know an internet web-site or a phone number of the company? Or dealerships sell them?
O'Reiley's sells them. I cannot remember the exact #...I think it is BKR5E-11. You have to ask for that part number. Look around at other posts, there are a lot of them.
You can get them at www.rockauto.com too. You have to buy them in packs of 4, so you would need 2 packs.
You can get them at just about anywhere.
I am sure you could order them from Jerry Rome Nissan for a discounted price. Just look in the for sale forums.
I would just try getting them at a local parts store first though. They will try to sell you the BKR6E-11, but you only want the one with the 5 in the number.
