So I put in the 470k resistor and took my max for a test drive. I was approaching a turn and didnt slow down enough and as I was turning, lost control of the car and slammed into a tree.
This is what my stupidity got me (I thank god no one around when it happend)...

damn they wanted 1900 to fix my accident all i needed was a new painted hood, a left head light, a grille, ac condensor, and straighten out radiator support. i hope you can get it fixed man, i love maximas in that color. just in case it is totaled (and i hope it isnt) let me know if you want to part it out, im lookin for a 97+ trunk and the black door pannels. i got dibs if u decide too. good luck with everything man.
i've got my side smashed pretty bad, and it cost me 4500 to fix, hook up price from a family friend. i think yours might cost more. guessing no more then 7 maybe? but it also depends who you take it too.
sorry to see that man.

Definately totalled. Book value is around 6 or 7 grand if your lucky and the insurance company will declair it totaled at ~70% of that figure. Do the math yourself, and kiss that car goodbye.

Insurance Co will total it...
... and I should know as I have been in auto insurance claims for 14 years.
Yep- it's a goner. Just remember you should (depending on state laws) have the option to retain the salvage for a lesser settlement. Then you could take that money and put it towards repair but the state laws will probably require it be re-titled as a salvage vehicle which may prevent you from getting future insurance coverage on it. You might just be better off to buy another one.
On the other hand if you don't have collision coverage insurance you can pay to have it repaired, but if it were me I'd remove what I wanted to keep, sell the rest for parts and put my money towards another Max.

You don't want that fixed
It might be possible, but you are better off not fixing it. I cna't see that it's repairable for the book value viewing the amount of mechanical work they'll need to do just to do the body work. To force that issue, find the most expensive shop you can to reapir it and use that estimate as your bargaining chip (with consideration to your state's laws on who's estimate gets used).
If you decide that you just have to fix it, find the absolute best body shop you can, with a top shelf frame man, and have him do it. You need to spend a few hours talking to body men before you find the right one. Everything has to be pulled just right or you'll have fit and run issues. The shop also needs to be able to match the paint. They'll all say "we do computer matching". That's BS, it still won't match. You need a guy who'll tell you about his strategy for blending it into the adjoining panels and really making it match. Since you'll be painting half the car, maybe you can do the whole thing.
OTOH, if you total it, check the laws in your state. Most require the insurance company to actually pay market value - i.e. you should be able to go buy the same model, year, miles, condition for that price with no haggling at the dealer. Don't accept the book value if it is not realistic. Also, you can probably force them to pay the Sales Tax if there is one in your state. A lot of the issues are state-specific, so talk to your agent, check the local consumer bureau, and make sure you get what you are entitled to. Most insurance companies *will* try to screw you, so know your facts and options in advance.

wow i wouldnt go with a shop that says they can do it for 3000. I just had my car repaired and all it needed was a front fender, corner light, splash guard, few misc part and some repair to the rear fender and paint. Cost 2700
I think it should be totalled.

For $3K you can fix it! Nothing like seeing a restored max on the road again!
You guys think sterling silver is hard to match, try Arctic White Pearl! My max shows the diff. shade of white on the front bumper compared w/ the rest of the car. My bro. had a similar accident w/ the front end when he had the max 4 yrs ago.
blkhawk keep us posted on the progress on your max!

blkhawk...I actually say you yesterday. I was driving a black infiniti i30 and was about to get on the conduit. I was wondering what happened? I thought maybe you were tryin to dodge form hitting a child or something. Glad to see you're okay. Get that baby fixed and back on the road!
Toatal it. It cost me $2k just to get the rear door, rear quarter and door jamb fixed. If some one is doing that for $3k I'd be scared to drive that car. Make sure you get some insurance or something cause I bet you it will overheat all the time.

My heart goes out to you man .
What Ave is that , looks like Sutter Ave?! Listen , go to Ray at 102 st on Atlantic Ave. Very good guy . He will return that to stock! Goodluck
If you are selling your seats , I may come and take a look at them and .......$$$
Man!
That sucks!
I always hate to see a Max wrecked like that!
Glad to hear that you are okay.
I would just get like 3 quotes from the average joe around town. Take the average from the 3 and I think it will be totaled. I mean, that is rough. YOu need a whole new front end, radiator, fan, hood, paint work, and a lot of frame work to get it to fun correctly. I would part out and start over.
At least check out how much damage some others are saying, not just your guy. Because if it is totalled, you could probably come out all right. Just part out and get the Insurance money, and get something even better.

sorry for you car man, you had nice setup but what happen, probally happened for a reason you will find something better. my brothers 99 maxima was totaled 2 years ago with a frontend collision similar to yours and that was when the book valuse on his car was $14000. the car is totaled, if i were you i would just take out the stuf you want and move on. you don't wanna a car after an accident like that anyway....
that sux man, but i know your pain oh too well. 2 trees took care of my last baby, pics at cardomain under 97jeepgrand.
but yea your car is definitly totaled, once you get frame damage on an older car like yours than the price is goin to be pretty high to fix, and once the price is 70% of the total value of the car to fix, kiss her good bye.
but we are glad to hear that you are alright, thats the only thing that kept me happy when i totaled my last car.
oh yea, 95snakekiller is right, those trees are really sneaky, they just tend to hop out in front of us.

It should definitely be totalled. I question the quality of the work for only 3 grand considering the air bags themselves will almost cost that much. I did much less damage to only the front left panel, bumper, and door and it costed well over 10 grand to fix right with everything OEM.
