Fuel pump whine is normal, just building up the pressure.

I've actually got a whining sound once the car starts and it's cold. For roughly the first 20 minutes of driving. Funny thing is that the sound can better be heard from inside the car from the driver seat. It's not constant, it just whines like "bvvvvv...bvvvvhhhh......bvvvhh..bbvv" it's really strange.
I just changed all the belts because of this sound and it's still there.
Could it be the starter like someone mentioned earlier?
If it's the fuel pump, isn't it located on the other side (passenger side)?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (it's driving me crazy!!!)

Most likely a fuel pump. Ive heard some that are alot louder than others. Sometimes, as they wear, they will start to get louder. It could also be belts or even a starter, but the starter would probably be more of a grinding noise.

the thing is, my whyning sound is not bvvvvhhh or anything, i remember how the fuel pump sounded like when i was boosted, its nothing like that.
its a real high pitch sound, that makes right before the engine starts.
probably makes that sound for like a split second. and when the engine starts, it goes away.

Does it do it when you are cranking the motor or just when you turn the key to the run position? I know both my dads 96 and my 98 have a high pitched sound when you first turn the key to run. I always though this was the fuel pump....actually the fuel pump still makes a noise when the car is running. I also have a pretty noticable whirring sound when i first start my 98 and I think that its the throw out bearing.

well if u don't figure it out i'd clean the starter out, they said mine was dirty and not lubed up enough so it wasn't disengaging properly when the engine fired up. it would make a high pitched whine for like a split second right after the engine had started. i have a video of the sound but i don't know how to put it on here.
