Code 0201. Ignition coil???
Code 0201. Ignition coil???
On a '99 Max SE with 75k miles, I am getting an intermitent 0201 code and check engine light. If it was a faulty ingnition coil, i would expect to see a misfire code also. I reset the ecu and the check engine light goes away for a couple of days then returns with the 0201 code again without any other codes. Car seems to run fine. Is this a precursor to a bad coil? Is there anything I can do to figure out what is the cause of the 0201 code or do I just have to wait until the coil fails where it sets off a misfire code also? thanks........
ECU Code 0201
I have just received a Code 0201 from the ECU as well. I did change spark plugs yesterday, but they were the correct NGK part# PFR5G-11. Aftyer changing them, it felt like engine had less torque, so I unplugged each coil one after the other to see if engine rotation changed at all. Could this have set off the code. I did reset the ECU but still get the 0201 code. Can anyone help me ?
Usually if you have a 99 and get the 02 01 code it's a bad ignition coil. If you are lucky, you will also get a companion code to tell you which cylinder the problem coil is. If you don't get a companion code, you can change all 6 (expensive) or wait until the problem intensifies enough to get the second code.
You should check the sparkplugs, coil wiring harnesses and fuel injectors to make sure that they are not the cause of the misfire CEL

My 99 SE started spitting that code with no other at 65K miles.. As it got more persistent, I finally changed all 6 coils. I never got a 2nd code indicating which coil... There is a reliability problem, so once this crap starts, change them all, or be prepared for a lot of frustration....
In the parts catalog for the '99 Max, there are 2 types of coils listed as replacment. One is Hansen and the other is Mitsubishi. Which one is the right one to purchase? I seem to remember that the 'good' ones have a grey or white dot one them.
