Help! Center Console

Ok guys, as you may or may not know, im making a new console (front to rear) for my car and ive run into a little problem. Whats happened is that im having trouble making the rear portion level with the front portion without cutting the thing into sections (i wanted to make it one long piece) as the console and interior are kinda angled funny. This sucks because i wanted the new console to sit higher than the oem one. the problem that i face is that the height of the rear and front are so different that it would get in the way of the normal operation of the shifter and e-brake. id have to cut big openings to get the clearance i want for operation not to be interrupted. Im kinda in a bind because ive already bought the materials, but i havent been able to cut yet (cant get to my dad's table saw yet, busy) and i cant get it all to fit right. Help!

I need your opinions on what i should do. Im still going to make the rear center console at least, if i dont make a complete console. i would just make a new shifter trim panel and do some stuff to the armrest. Please let me know your opinions.

thinking about the first idea, could you take off the armrest portion of the oem center console and build an attachment that rests in there to connect it to the new back thing you're making?

is that clear? basically, i mean make your rear thing and have it rest/bolt on/connect to the oem center console overlaying where the armrest portion is and it might not look too awkward because that area is between the seats anyways. i doubt anyone would notice or care that it was two piece.

you could always go into one of those custom shops that makes random projects and ask them for their opinions and ideas...seems like there are lots of those out in cali.

Yeah, well if im going to use the OEM center console, id like to still have an armrest. There may be a way i can connect the rear portion to the armrest bolts, but what would i put underneath? itll be wasting all that space unless i figure out what to do. ill have to draw up some more designs. Thanks for the input.

i'm sure you could still get the armrest, or a custom one, to fit there. you could use that area as an extra compartment to store crap in, like ps2 or xbox, or whatever you were planning on putting in. i'm sure you could design a nice custom fold out area to put stuff. i wish i were there helping out, sounds like a fun project! goodluck!
