Y pipe + intake needs new chip?

My mechanic told me that in order to see any real increase in torque I would need to get a chip with new timings if I upgrade my intake and y pipe... is there any truth to this? If so, how much are these chips and where can i buy them from.

your mechanic sucks!

you'll definately feel a difference with just a y-pipe. there are no chips, as of now, for the maxima. there are ecu upgrades if that's what he means. technosquare and jwt make these upgrades. the jwt has the raised rev limiiter which = good when combined with the mevi. read through the faq's for all info on this stuff, and get a new mechanic.
