97 GXE Auto - Basic Mods?

Hey I'm fairly new to the Maxima scene, but I'm lookin forward to modding my 97 a little bit. What are the best, most noticeable, bolt on modifications that do not detract from driveability or MPG? I was thinking of CAI, Y-pipe, and possibly one or two others. What are your suggestions?

CAI with a Y-Pipe will give you a good gain on HP and Tq. I don't have either (yet) but I plan on getting both once I get some $$$ To add on top of that, get a B-pipe. You should also get some clear corners. These give your car a unique look and get rid of that ugly orange on your front bumper.

Red clear tails are a MUST

Also could lower your ride a bit if budget allows. Cefiro one piece headlights...

Whatever you do, I would highly suggest going the performance route first, then do the visual upgrades. I went the opposite way with the altezzas and neon lights (NO FLAMES!!! all of it is off now!!!) and I added up all the money I have spent on this crap, and I could have been boosted by now or at least nitrous.

Only visual mod I would do first would be the DC bumper lenses, unless of course you like to rock the stockers for that ultimate 'sleeper look'

Good luck

drew

(Hint: shop around and wait for group deals.... ex: WSP Y-pipe deal recently)

who cares what you do after wards, but the ypipe is the first thing you should do.

all other mods mean nothing compared to this

if you want some more off-the-line grunt, and if you dont plan on running a mega sound system, you might want to consider an underdrive pulley. A lighter, smaller pulley frees up power across the entire rpm range. Probably about 5-7hp at the wheels. Most other bolt-ons won't really kick in til about 3k rpm.

Get a y-pipe first since it is the cheapest and most effective performance mod for the max. Then work on the exhaust system with a performance catback or a ebay CAI.

If you're more about looks start with a stillen body kit then some Moda R6 19s.

Ehh, personally, I prefer the Evo 5's over the Moda R6's. Don't get me wrong, the Moda R6's are sweet, but Evo's are a little better. Chillinmax has these on his Max, DAMN!

Oh btw, how much do the 18" Moda's weigh?

thanx ilumo. I actually took a look at a set of katana C5's up in Jersey but were in MAD CRAP CONDITION. I decided to say whatever and get the MM's. How's the stang?

Thank you midwest.

A y pipe is a good idea for one of the first few mods, but there have been so many threads and issues about problems with them that i decided to hold off the idea. In terms of performance, y pipe and/or short ram for growl (Cold air intake is a good idea as well).

Yea, take a look at happy's page. it has a lot of DIY's.

Issues????? What are you talking about? Bees or passing emissions. Those are all minor things for which is the way to go around. 99% of people who got them love them. Imagine what board will look like when everyone will come to post their positive expiriences. However those that have some issues run to Org right away.... therefore this negative perception...

I'm talking about the clearance levels of the warpspeed, the "bees in a can" noise, the fitment issues, and the stated "loss of power" in the low end. This is what i read, and although only those with problems run to the org, they are still "issues." I've heard nothing but GREAT things about the ypipe, and if installed correctly, should be a big gain.

Ypipe IS a great mod, if installed correctly. I should've worded my previous paragraph differently.

Good luck!

dont buy a warpspeed, they are way overpirced, and have the bee problem from what i hear. the budget as well as the others main problem seems to be the flex section. Besides you can almost buy two new budgets for the price of a comparabe warpspeed.

as for the rims, the moda r6s are the sweetest rims ive ever seen, they look good on anything, my brother had them on his sc 400.

as for the weight, they are rediculously heavy, im 240lbs played football and i could get a good workout in just moving those damn things around(18s)

Thats some great information and pics on your site happyricefob. My question is about the grounding system, did it really help MPG that much? With the price of gas going up so fast that would be a wise investment on my part. What about power increases with the grounding system?

What kind of dyno numbers/acceleration times would I be looking at with a CAI, Y-pipe, UDP, grounding system, possible B pipe and muffler?
