also, if it works, is it possible to get modules for the other stuff, like the windows or the trunk?

How much did you see it for? I called my local dealer the other day about getting them to add the keyless entry module on and was quoted NZ$208 (US$116). Thought that was pretty good considering third party companies would charge me NZ$400 installed.

You could buy the module and do it your self, but I remember reading a few threads that asked the same question, and the general answer was that some of the wiring doesn't already exist for the keyless entry if you car didn't come stock with it, which means you would have to go about doing this yourself. If that doesn't sound like something you'd want to do, but you still want the stock keyless entry, maybe give your local dealer a call and see what they would charge you for it?

fellas...

I actually think that the wiring may already exist....I can't be convinced that Nissan made 2 separate wiring harnesses for the maxima...here's what to do...go in your trunk...on the passenger side and pull the liner...look back there, close to the antenna...for any wires...that'll tell you if you're pre-wired. my GXE was....and you might be able to tell if you look under your bumper for fog light harnesses....

you can add keyless entry to anything, but you need to bypass the alarm for sure and our maxima is a bit difficult to pregram because it had a double unlock pulse.

well i looked and there are definitely a couple plugs back by the taillights that are not going to anything. i cant imagine they could be for anything else besides the trunk module or whatever. ok, so i am pre-wired. now what? i am buying this keyless entry module, but does being prewired mean i can definitely use it? just plug it in and get a remote?

nupe500, you said your car was pre-wired. does that mean you utilized it? did you hook anything up to it?

ok one more thing. does anyone know where the keyless entry module goes, anyways?

Hey Gutter,

the module goes in the trunk near the antenna...u have to remove the jack to get to it...and all you basically do is plug in the module, you might need the security light too(dash), then get a remote and program it...its a shame if you were local I'd let you hold my spare unit to figure it out...rather than purchase one

ManualMaxima,
you just can't get the remote, if the module is not in the trunk it won't work...

well that is a damn shame. i appreciate it though.

hey you mentioned the security light. so i need that too? dammit...
how do i get that? is it an insert or something? the system wont work without it? one more thing. does that module cover windows and trunk too? or do i need something seperate. oh well, it would just be nice to be able to unlock my damn doors without having to use a key.

Ok, my Maxima comes with the alarm and already has the security light installed just no keyless entry. If I go look now where the antenna is on the inside of the boot and find those loose cables, all I need to do is buy the module and a remote and I'm all set?

Just had a look in that area, couldn't find any loose unplugged cables at all. Does anyone have a pic of what that area looks like in there car and what the keyless enty module looks like?

i added power trunk to my gxe, we are prewired. all i bought was the popping solenoid off of ebay for $10 and added a custom button. all the wiring is there, you just need to complete it and set up the popper in the right spot.

i took my instrument cluster off today, and ther is an unused wire harness next to the cruise control power button. i just have a plastic panel there. is this where the security light would go? and do i need this to complete the circuit of the keyless entry system?

if so, does anybody have a spare they would be willing to sell?

i looked in my friends trunk today, and i saw the module right where matt said it is, and it was there.
when i looked in my trunk, i saw a wire that looked like a power source. the same wire that i saw in my friends car. the wire that should give the module some power. so my friend said he will fling his for 30 bucks since he had no use for his.
am i lucky or what? well, i'll let y'all know how it goes.
but till then y'all keep me posted on ur findings.

wow how did you find this old thread?

by the way, i went to a junkyard and looked at a max that had the module, but there was an extra grey wire going to it that i did not have. i could not locate where it was going to, because the car was wrecked at that end.

i finally got so fed up that i ended up buying a crime guard keyless entry system. i'm happy with that. did the install myself. actually pretty proud of myself.
