Has anyone converted to auto climate control?
Hey everyone, I was looking for some help on doing an auto climate control conversion. Yes, I have looked around for a few hours, but can't find any useful information. I can probably get the stuff, but how do I install it? Where do the sensors go? Where do I route wires? I found a writeup for a conversion done on a 93 max, but no 95-99's. If you know where I can find a writeup, please let me know, or if you can help out, it would be appreciated.---Oh, and does anyone know where the intake sensor (one of four sensors for auto climate control) is located on the 95-99's? It was in the cabin behind the glovebox on the 93, but I don't know where it could be on the 4th gen. Thanks!!!

yes, I have read the stickies, long before I even joined the .org. I was wondering if anyone has actually experienced the install and how to go about it. Where exactly to put the three external sensors, etc... Thanks, WillMax, at least YOU knew what I meant....

not calling you a liar, but i haven't seen 1 person (4th gen atleast) do this since i've been on the org. i've brought up threads that had huge discussions of it, but no one was able to produce results or proof any 4th gen has been successful at this.

Well, I guess I'll be the guinea pig. I'm getting everything for $100 shipped. This includes the unit itself with the in-cabin sensor, sunload sensor, intake sensor, ambient sensor, and the BCM needed for the conversion. Maybe I'll do a writeup and some pics when I try it.

Ive seen someone way say they did it. I guess if the search feature was enabled you might actaully find it. Its not impossible considering the cars come off the same line. I honestly think it would be alot changes to the wiring but its possible.

I did it on my 93SE and my friend's 93SE. I had to run lots of new wiring, add several sensors, swap a few motors, change some brackets and some other stuff.
I spent a while comparing the schematics in the FSM and figured out what would need to be changed and what could stay. Then I found a car with the system in the junkyard and got all the pieces and hardware from that car. The first car I did was a lot of work but the second one went a lot more smoothly. I'd suggest taking lots of pics of how all the different things are mounted in the auto climate control car before removing them. For instance, in my car, the max cold lever has a flat side on a rod that is backwards from the auto climate car. So I had to file down the bracket to make it work. I couldn't figure it out for a while until I went back to the junkyard and saw what the deal was.
I have a writeup on my site for 3rd gens. It wont be the same, but it might give you an idea of some things you'll need to look for.

don't do it, of all the gadgets in my max, the auto temp control is my most hated! in my opinion its a pos system designed to both break and be costly to fix. i would much rather have the manual controls, but hey, watcha gonna do?

Yes, it has been done, and I have seen it with my own eyes.
My friend Yonas with a 98 did it to his GXE. He had converted his car from automatic to manual (5-speed conversion) and he got a 5-speed engine harness (ECU, harness, climate control harness, etc). It took him a good day to switch everything into his car, but it works fine. He then spent a little on the second day routing the extra sensors it has.
To me, it is too much work for nothing, especially when the manual climate control works just fine in my opinion......
