suspension question and mods
Can somebody explain to me what the 4th gen max rear suspension is all about. Why is it called semi independent? Does that suck? What suspension mods should i do first and in what order? I've already figured out and ordered a courtesy FSTB. What next? Then What? Which company should I order from. Who's got the best price.? Thanks
Somebody out there must know
sorry had to post again to get to top. Someone out there should know this stuff

seen the main page already
Okay several people have read this thread already but there have been few responses. Maybe you just don't know???? THe main page FAQS only tell you what the suspension upgrades do. I already know what they do. My question again is What is the Maxima rear suspension all about? and What suspension upgrades would you purchase first and why? for example I know the FSTB will do wonders for the car so I bought a courtesy fstb. Do I go with rear sway bars first or RSTB or bushings or what???? and WHY????? Thanks again
From what I understand, it's a rear beam that connects each wheel. So basically what happens on one wheel, will effect the other wheel.
That's just the simplified version..I'm pretty sure there's something more complex in that rear beam.

It's like this: The maxima's rear suspension is all connected to a single axle, it does not have 4 wheel independent suspension. What does this mean you ask? What happens to one wheel has a major effect on the other wheel and handling. Single beam sucks compared to an independant setup, period. Now, what can we do about this? You already ordered an FSTB. That will tighten up the front steering and make it feel a lot more solid. Next you should get a rear sway bar. This will reduce the amount of body roll in your car and make the suspension do it's job more. Where to buy? Stillen and Addco both make em. Supposedly the Stillen is more adjustable, but it's also a lot more expensive. I ordered an Addco, which is also adjustable, and paid $120. Look in the Links section for that. You can also replace your springs. Eibach, H&R, and sprint are just a few. Once again, price depends on where you buy it. Eibachs are progressive and stiff, H&R's are the closest to a stock ride, Sprint are the biggest drop and probably harshest ride. While replacing springs you should also replace the struts, just a recomondation. Just remember, your suspension won't be crap without good tires. Hope this helps.
Upgrading and Mods
hi- mtrai760 is on the right track. Sounds like you're on the same page as I am... starting out with a stock Maxima. Last week I ordered Addco rsb for $119+shipping, a great value compared to what you'll have to pay for Stillen rsb. I went with Cattman fstb instead of Courtesy or Stillen. Lifetime warranty for the rsb/fstb, can't beat that.
I also decided to go with the H&R/Tokico setup because H&R will have a comfy ride compared to others (Sprint, Eibach...etc.). The drop on the H&R will be significant (1.3-1.4"), but not as much as the other aftermarket springs. AnGe
PS- Good set of Wheels/tires should be 1st on your mod list!
