Please Help! Idling Problems

Well, it's been 9 months and I finally had the opportunity to find another engine to drop in my blown car. Today we dropped in the engine, V2 supercharger, exhaust and headers. The car is a 1999 with a 1997 block, all wiring swapped to 99 and the ecu is also a 1999. Now, my problem is that when I start the car, the engine automatically revs up to 3000 rpm, then it drops down to 1000 then goes back up, almost like if i was tapping on the gas, but the car does it automatically. There is no check engine light, and although I haven't taking the car out of park and attempting to drive it, i don't think it's very advisable. Also, the car is ridiculously loud, almost as if I were driving with no exhaust system.

Does anybody think that turning that switch on the ECU to self-diagnosis will help or fix the problem? IS that the same thing as resetting the ECU? IF not, how do I reset the ECU? How do I remove it? Do I need to remove it? I'm not exactly the smallest guy so getting back there behind the pedals and messing with the computer is pretty difficult.

Does anybody know of any suggestions to help? I need an answer within like 10 hours because the mechanic that dropped the engine in wants me to get the car out tomorrow. He isn't really experienced with maximas. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP GUYS! THANKS.

A lot of 99's are Cali Spec and the ECU is completely different from 97's. That could very well be your problem.

Other then that, check for vaccume leaks around the intake and make sure the Idle Air Control Valve is working.

My 99 was not a cali spec (2 vs 4 thingees in the front) .

What is the idle air control valve? What does that look like?
I was reading on VBmaxima that it could possibly be my Throttle Position Sensor?

Any other ideas?

So resetting the ECU won't help?

There are no check engine codes when I start the car neither.

Thanks for your response.

Make sure hte ECU screw is not in diagnostics mode. The IACV is in the back of the intake manifold.

How do I check that the IACV is 'working?' Everything is connected?

I also made sure that the ECU is not in diagnostics mode as well.

So, I towed the car to my dealer and they refuse to work on it because it has been modified and they don't want my non-stock engine to short out their diagnostic computer.

I sure wish there were better aftermarket performance shops here.

When the car is on, turn the wheel and if the rpm's move than the IACV is working. also clean the IACV and make sure the throttle cable is not too tight.
