MEVI + JWT ECU or RIMS + Tires

I'm starting to get ready for my next mod.
I figured no matter what I did, it's gonna cost me about a grand, so that's what I'm gonna try to save up for.

The thing is I'm not sure what to do next, or if I should do any at all. I mean, the car will be 10 years old next year. Plus it's got about 150k on it and it's an automatic.

I really want to go FI, but I think that's out of the question right now.

So if I were to go performance, I guess a MEVI and a ECU upgrade to match should be next.

Or maybe I should go for the rims and tires setup cuz I'm rolling on stock steelies.

SO, there you go. You've got $1000.00. Your mods are Intake, Y Pipe, Catback, Exhaust, maxspeed springs, and KYB's. What would you do next?

udp? better sound system? leather upgrade? air horn? or should I sell it?!!

It depends on what you want really. If you're a performance hound like me, the ECU and MEVI would be the way to go. If you'd like your Max to lose a little body fat and look a little nicer, a set of 17" MM Evo 5s and tires would be a good route to pursue. Either way, do what'll make you happy because you're the one driving the car.

not sure but 150k sounds like too much for FI. ecu +mevi plus stock looking car= sleeper!!!

you can always get wheels later it's fun blowing the doors off unsuspecting folks in your GXE!

Just get an ebay fstb for $20. Then it won't really effect your budget. I'd say go performance, just my .02.

If you're rolling on stockies I'd get some wheels. Doesn't even have to be aftermarket. 97-99 5-star rims look good as do the 5th gen 6 spoke wheels. Wouldn't set you back to much then you can go for the performance.

I'd say if you are rinding on hub caps get rims but if you have some nice alloys go for performance. Check on ebay for rims and tires. I bought some 17" koning verdicts for $500 shipped with tires. So check those out before you spend a 1000. If you want to see a picture of my 17's just to see hwta they look like e-mail me or somthin.

Go with the "Go Fast" mods first, you'll be able to spook people to how fast you are. WEin a couple of races and than you can buy those wheels and tires. Just my $.02

MEVI + ECU is what i would go for but then again I already have stock alloys and leather so they kind of bias my opinion in the looks department.

Are you into racing/going faster? If you desire more power and want to race then get mevi/ecu but if that's not something you're really into definately get some wheels.

you are asking the same question every orger at one point or another asks, and well the answer is mevi + ecu. Hands down. I have stock steelies myself, and I am perfectly fine driving around on them. They are light, get the job done, and are well worth the cash saved. I've got a similar setup to you (ws ypipe, straight cat, obx-h catback, custom intake, fstb, rsb, and a sts to boot) and I'm currently saving my money to go mevi + ecu, it'll kick ***! I already love how my max pulls, with a lil more power, it'll really kick some unsuspecting rustangs butt!

Well, I really shouldn't be going any faster... too many tickets already...
But I'm also kinda afraid of getting rims... cuz my neighorhoods a little rough... they might not like it.... but my tire threads are balding out so I'll have to get new tires anyway....

hmmm....

going fast is looking like a winner....

If you live a less-than-savory area, I'd definitely urge you to keep a stock appearance. Just get a new set of tires and upgrade what's under the hood. Besides, what's the point of looking fast when you aren't? People that do that are posers, IMO. The Maxima is fast as is but like all cars, can be made faster.

its kind of hard to say. Like everyone else says u basically have to decide which route u want to go. You already have a lot performance wise. If you get rims/tires for 1k, they are not going to be light weight unless they are used or old and if thats the case u might as well stay stock till u can afford the really good/light rims. I would rather have mevi/ecu. You get more respect here and in this world of modding with those mods vs descent/cheap wheels...just my observation...

If you get the MEVI/JWT ECU, just don't expect too much from it. Especially if you're an auto like me. It didn't help me much at the track.

Get on the Technosquare GD for the ECU and got with some light weight 16in rims(between 14-16lbs)U will get the best of both worlds and might still have $$ left over.I agree a mevi on an auto wont help that much, maybe unless you r manual shifting your auto...

I would say the performance option with the MEVI and ECU. I probably say this mostly because I cannot get those for my 99.

Wheels are easy to find cheap.
If you don't want to get the 97-99 5-star wheels for under $400, you can get some Rota Subzeros for $500 shipped(17", and good looking.) These wheels only weigh about 16.5lbs, and that will help you considerably. Don't get the 5th gen wheels if you want performance, as they are pretty heavy. Also, don't get Evo's because they are equally as heavy.

I am not against a Max looking good. I like the speed mods better, but you gotta find a good balance between the two. You gotta make it look good too.

if you're in performance go for a VI/ecu combo

but if you're in the appearance section go with a body kit from stillen.

See that wasn't so hard, was it?
