Sloppy Shifter

I have a 95 Maxima 5 spd and its the only manual i've ever driven until a couple of days ago. I never knew how sloppy my shifter was until i drove my friends 2003 Jetta. His Jetta is so easy to put into gear as opposed to mine, and you can really feel it when his goes into gear, its just so much smoother. Are any of your maximas like mine? Or do I have to fix something? Will this be fixed when I get my transmission rebuilt this summer? (I have 240,000 miles on it )

I also agree, seems like or cars shifters are sloppy, heck the old neon I use to have had a much better feeling shifter, especially after I added poly bushings to it, im going to be getting a sts in hopes of getting that more "direct/connected" feel, other than that I dont know what to do..

Yeah mine feels sloppy...and at very random points too. I doubt this but I'm putting in a new short throw shifter that might change something. I've also been told flushing the transmission fluid and replacing it will fix something. I don't know if it'll fix any kind of slopiness but it might.

Mine definitely feels sloppy compared to my dad's 350z, which feels like butter to me, but he says that his feels like crap compared to his old Miata. Alot of times I have trouble getting into first gear from standstill but no problems in third. By the way my STS made it even harder to get into gear, especially third and fourth because it doesnt sit centered anymore. Maybe the fancier ones work better, mine is el cheapo from ebay.

The car has rejected me a couple of times trying to get in to 3rd but that was my fault. I can't shift

Anyways, I have a STS. These things aren't the smoothest of shifters for the maxima. 1FSTMAX recommended that i use Redline 90 MT fluid. That got rid of his notchyness. I haven't used it yet but you can be the first or second or third or...
