Ok, I've got a 98 Max SE, and need a muffler replacement...
Talked to Stillen, HKS, Greddy, Borla... all those, but need some advice from people who've used em, not from sales reps. Please let me know you're experiences and recommendations, I need minimal noise at low revs and louder at higher is great. Also, Stainless steel with 4" or 4 1/2" outlet is what i'm lookin for. Thanks... and btw, price range is about $300.

-Amit

Also, is there no HKS muffler for the 98? can't find it!

Amit,

The 95-96 HKS muffler will fit on the 97-99 Maxima. The rear bumper on the 97-99 extends out a little bit, so the
tail pipe is tucked under the bumper about an inch or so.
I think "Jambo" still has a picture posted(too lazy to link). Hope this helps.

Avoid Stillen, too loud. I've been told HKS are not as loud. U might want to double check that.

I might switch to a Courtesy B and HKS muffler. But don't know yet. will see when Summer comes around and I roll down the windows.

Naxos is what you're looking for. I had the same problem, that I didn't want something too loud, but just right. I put a Naxos on and it is great. It gets loud as you're in the 4500+ range and it has a 4 1/2 inch tip on it. It'll run you like 150-175

Ok, so the Naxos should be a better choice over an HKS for a bit over $300, right?... Where should I buy it from? any suggestions would be welcome.. thanks again!

I have the HKS and it is very quite. Even if you step on it you here the JWT Pop over ther exhaust. I am not familiar with Naxos so can't give you a comparision on sound but the HKS has a 4" tip.

Just curious guys, and don't flame me- as this is only my second import car after my RX-7. But anyone try a Flowmaster or Borla XR-1 muffler setups on the Maximas? Just for bang for buck, these domestic names are cheaper, I know lot's of Civics/Accords running around with glasspacks on their cars. Does everyone put on HKS/Trust/Stillen exhausts....because obviously if it's got the bang, it's worth the buck. If anyone knows how muc less/more power the cheaper exhausts pu out, let me know. Yeah, and louder the better for me.... straight pipes never bothered me. Thanks. If I had the money, I'd obviously go with the dual setup!!

i had flowmasters on my 92 legend and they kicked a$$. they were freakin loud but thats exaclty what i wanted. i plan on doing them again to my maxima as soon i save money. my plan is to make a straight SS pipe from the headers to the flowmaster muffler at a local muffler shop. the cost will be under $250 and the emissions will be ok because that is not checked where i live.

Which Flowmaster were you running? See, I've never put one/
or even heard one on an import car. How did you Legend sound? Different than like an Apex'i or HKS?

I checked out 2kracing. They have a spark plug wire set for the 4th gen maxima. It's only $75 dollars. WTF IS IT?

What does the Stillen sound like? I personally want a muffler that has a nice deep tone to it, but I don't want one that has a buzzing drone to it like the 4cyl honduh boyz have. I want I nice deep low growl to it. Any thoughts?

flowmasters...

i was using the 40-series. i havent heard any type of exhaust on a maxima so i cant compare. between me and my friends, i had the loudest exhaust. even the trucks with the flowmasters and dynamaxes, i still topped them. i loved going through garages cuz i could set off nearly all the other car alrams. there was a light droning sound during normal driving but it was really a lot better then my friends integs and civics. the flowmasters on my legend kept a low pitch v-8 type of growl. i want to do it on the max but i heard that they do not go very good with nissans for a reason i dont know of.
