99 and Y pipe

I put a Ypipe on my 96 and it made a BIG difference. Will I get that kind of difference on my 99? I have an Injen CAI and a Greddy SP catback.

95-98 aftermarket y-pipe will eliminate 3 pre-cats.
99 aftermarket y-pipe will eliminate only 2 pre-cats.

Happyricerob, do you know why? Does the 99 have fewer precats (seems unlikely!) or does it have additional precat(s) elsewhere?

I've never heard about this. I've also never heard of 99s having less significant gains from a Y than 95-98s.

Damn, did not know that. It's more like a "T-pipe" haha. Well I'm sure the gains are very close and my emissions will be a bit cleaner.

Wait, are you sure you're not confusing Fed and Cali spec here? I know the Fed and Cali spec Y-pipes are different for 99s at least.

Go Here

Shows how to see if you have a fed spec or cali model. Fed specs use the same as 97's and 8's. Cali's use shortened pipe, but I think they make one that eliminates all the pre-cats now too if you have a cali spec.

I am fed spec and my gains are going to be about the same as the older models. I am glad for that.

You will still see pretty significant gains even if you are Cali spec. They will just not be quite as much as if you were FED spec, because the emissions are more strict on those cars.

It probably won't be as good as the regular y-pipe, but it's still way better than stock.

Aslong as you are fed spec, 99s and 99.5s should look the same as the older models, but ive heard 99.5s doesnt hook up the same. It still eliminates all the precats though. Its cali spec ones that are the t shaped.
