How much fluids does the 4th gen need
I'm getting ready to replace the manual transmission fluid, brake fluid, and radiator fluid. I don't have my owner's manual so I need someone to help me with this one. I want to order red line synthetic for the transmission, but I need to know how much of it I need. Than I would like your opinion on what to use for brake fluid and how much of it. And of caurse the coolant. Should I use regular Prestone or is there a better solution? Thanks in advance for all your inputs.
Coolant system capacity is about 8-9 quarts. For a 50-50 mix, you'll need 2 gallons of coolant (I went with Toyota Red) and two gallons of distilled water to start. You'll need more distilled water if you want to do a complete flush (I used about 15 gallons of distilled water after all was said and done.) Make sure you watch the reservoir for a couple days after you do the change to top it off as necessary.
You should be able to get by using one litre of brake fluid but I'd get two liters just in case something goes wrong and you need to re-bleed for whatever reason. ATE Super Blue is great in that it performs well and it comes in two colors (blue and gold) so that you can tell when you have bled all of the old stuff out. FYI Speed bleeders work well and make the job easier.
I don't know how much manual tranny fluid you'll need, sorry. (FYI auto's take about 10 quarts). Amsoil and Redline are about the best you can buy.
Look at the fluids and lubricants sticky for more detailed info on these and other fluid changing procedures. Like Jeff said, a Chilton's (or Haynes) manual is golden for these sorts of things. Good luck.

the manual tranny seems to take about 4.5 quarts.
So...you'll need the following:
- 2 gallons of coolant
- 2 liters of brake fluid
- 4.5 quarts MT fluid
- Several gallons of distilled water
You might as well get a quart of ATF while you're at it and change the power steering fluid also.
