I'm getting a funny "b-r-r-d-d-t b-r-r-d-d-t" noise from my front wheels sometimes when I'm going over 40 mph. Sounds like I'm going over some drunk bumps, even when I'm on smooth road. It never lasts long, but my guess is the bearings need to be repacked. Quote from a local shop was $396 for both front wheels. I checked Motorvate's write-up and there is no way I can do it myself.

How long do you think I can go without fixing this? What's the worst case scenario? Right now, I only hear it about twice a day if I get on the highway.

 

Have you checked your tires yet to see if they have worn down unevenly?

If so, your problem might be bad alignment / balance and a need for new tires.

 

I needed new tires anyway, so bought some Toyo Proxes TPT's, plus alignment. New smooth and quiet ride, but still the little brrddt noise every once in a while. That's why I'm thinking bearings.

 

So, what's the worst case? Will it get worse slowly? Or could I have a sudden catastrophic failure of my front wheels?

 

Jack up the front and grab each wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and see if there is any play in the wheel.

A wheel with good bearings should not wiggle at all.

Have you checked the CV boots?

 

That's a good idea. Thanks. My main concern is that I go on a long trip and the wheel suddenly freezes up or something. Local mechanic wants $400 to repack bearings in both front wheels.

 

I have an exacly the same problem but mines are at the point when they makin noise like a flat when im goin like 20, Ive talked to some mechanic he said that the price of the bearing is like 300+ work so i was like hell with that, I callled a local part store to find out the prive and its $33 but anyways let me get to the point the worse thing that will happen is that they will start making crazy noise and thats about it the wheels wont fail or anything like that. If u have access to a hydrolic press u can do it ur self or spend mad time hammering it in but its possible to do it ur self
