Crankshaft Position Sensor/Flywheel/Starting issues

Ok so my max cut out on me about a month ago while i was driving and i pulled over and it never restarted. It cranks but then nada. no starting.

got towed 1/8 of a mile to my house.

so i get the 0905 cps position sensor code and replaced it. I still get the code and it still doesnt start even with the new sensor.

so the haynes says that another issue might be the teeth on the flywheel. I replaced the clutch/flywheel with a ACT/SPEC(fidanza) about 5000 miles ago and right before this happened I had a grinding noise coming from the clutch transmission area had the accoustics of steel on aluminum. I know for a fact i torqued everything to spec because im AR when it comes to stuff like that. well it lasted for a day right up until i was driving to my transmission guy to have him listen to the sound and then the noise stopped (murphys law) I drove around for another day and then thats when the car cut out.

oh and also when I got the sound, the car was also very jumpy and it bucked at low speeds, but the clutch grabbed perfectly with no slipping whatsoever.

possibly the gear in the starter was somehow binding on the flywheel? or somehow something got in there? Im clueless.

so what i really want to do is drop the transmission and see what is going on there but since i had to get it towed to the front of my house and my drive way is up hill, my garage is not really useful at the moment.

but..my truck is running alright at the moment, and im done finals so maybe i can turn my attention to this issue.

any one with any kind of advice or similar issue or even a completely unrelated but funny story is welcome to post.

cheers -jay

Did you replace the CPS up by the crankshaft pulley or back by the flywheel?

Can you take off the starter and peer at the flywheel? Might be easier than taking the tranny off.

i replaced the CPS position sensor..thats the one next to the transmission bell housing. the reference sensor is next to the crankshaft pully

good idea about taking off the starter..I'll give that a shot.

update, so apparantly all the teeth were sheared off of the flywheel. thats why the CPS sensor was not getting a signal.

anyone know where to get a cheap fidanza/spec flywheel??

ok more news...so we dropped the transmission and it appears that a bolt backed out that holds the pressure plate to the flywheel. the bolt flew around in there and bent the flywheel and it also went thru the oil pan.

So I have to replace the Oil Pain, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, and the flywheel.

my mechanic says its going to be about 1500$

Did you do the work the first time? Sounds like someone forgot to torque down the bolt.

Also, $1500 sounds a might excessive to me for all that.
