How can i prevent my trany from failing???
How can i prevent my trany from failing???
im starting to notice my auto tranny isnt as peppy as it used to be, the shifts take alot longer to engage and sometimes i swear like it wont shift at all, i was in 1st gear all the way till 5000rpms (during normal driving) and it usually shifts at like 3500-4000 to engage 2nd gear. the shifts seem a lil more sluggish. downshifts feel perfect as for right now. overall i feel my tranny is in good condition and all the stuff i mention only happens once in a while like every 10-15 days but before it would only happen like every 20-25 days. so i think it is getting worse.
i would like to know what can i do to get more life outta my tranny as a 5spd swap and a auto tranny rebuild is outta the question right now.
here are some things me n my friend thouht up.
1)change tranny fluid
2)add a tranny cooler
3)VB Modification (i remember hearing that it supposidly adds life to your tranny, something about line preasure)
4)take it easy on aggresive driving, (may be hard to do but ill try
)
is there anything else i can do, like i said i stongly believe i can get another 3-4 years outta this tranny if i can take these steps now sice i believe i havent crossed that threshold where it is too late.
also i was thinking of mounting a tranny temp gauge in my car, would that be usefull since i can monitor whats goin on with the tranny. il just buy a dual pilar gauge pod and put the tranny guage in there and put something else in the other oppening like oil temp or A/F or somethin.

My transmission is in a similiar situation to yours. My shifts all are more sluggish than the use to be but the tranny still shifts at the same points. EVERY shift my tranny makes is now sluggish. My transmission has been like this since last December and it is still going. I did a full tranny flush and put synthetic in there last month and there was no difference at all, either positive or negative.

How many miles are on your Max?
Typically, auto trannies just don't last that long. That is why I was against getting one in My max when I got it.
There is probably nothing you can do short of just saving up for a rebuild or a swap.
You could always just try to part out that car and buy another one as soon as you can.
You may be able to get another 3 or 4 years out of it, but you can never tell when it starts slipping and acting up like that.

I recently bought an autometer 2" ultra lite trans temp gauge, the autometer a single pillar pod, plus the temperature manifold to tap into the fluid lines, but I'm not so sure when I'll ever get that installed. I've spent about 100ish so far on just the gauge stuff.
Need to get the damn gauge on there... *paranoia*

BTW, that is low mileage for a 95

bru i got the max in feb 2001 and it had like 92,000 miles on it i think, and it just hit 120,000 last week. when i 1st got it i was thinking damn thats alot of miles but after seeing how much miles other people have and they are running NOS and other FI i was reassured. car has had no major problems just cv-joints, and a complete brake job besides the minor stuff like filters and plugs.
