99 max hood won't stay up.. ??

I've searched through the forums and faq's and couldnt find a thing about anyone's hood not staying up. Is there something I should oil or is it the hydraulic devices themselves I have to replace? I can't do much work in the engine if I rely on this wooden stick i used to keep it up. Ghetto all the way. Thanks for your replies.

Your hood shocks are blown; very common. Best deal is go to a pep boys or your dealer and get a new set.

Yup, sounds like your hood supports have gone lazy. Just had to change mine on my 96 recently, would think any auto parts store should have em in stock, mine cost 20 a piece from Autozone. Easy fix at least.

They will continue to be blown no matter what you do. If you buy another pair, it's just a matter of time of them going bad.

It's probably better just to stay with your performance stick and ghetto it out.

Thanks guys. Yes, never knew those things are so pricey. The mechanic called it $250. I almost laughed at him, and then I asked him. Isn't that enough money to just buy another hood or even a cf hood? and he just scratched his head and said 'I guess so". stealerships, thief mechanics. all the world has gone awry. I'll stick to my wooden stick and keep searching for a black metal one to match my maxi

Yup I have the same problem with my hood shocks not staying up but I won't have to put up w/ em for much longer. I had my mechanic price them from the local Nissan stealership and they told him like $110 each. Are they smokin??? When he heard that, he suggested trying any local auto parts store and buying a universal fit one for like $20-$30, and putting it on myself. I forgot the name of the one he suggested though.
Just last week I checked Advanced Auto in my town and they had some for $18 and change each, and the guy said that they'd definitely work fine. He laughed when he heard the price from the stealership and even offered to help me put em on if I needed it.
So my advice, buy yourself some $18 hood struts/shocks and say goodbye to the hood slammin on your head whenever you're workin under the hood.
That's what I'm about to do later this week. If there's one thing I learned from everyone here at the org it's never spend more money than you have to on repairs or mods that don't really require it.

Max Noob-I'm thinking about doing the 95/96-97/99 front and rear end conversions. Can you provide me w/ any usefull info about these mods? Exactly what parts do I need? Where did you get them from? How much is it roughly? How many coats of paint did you use? Sorry if this is a repost but I can't find much info on the specifics of this mod.
ANY AND ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!!! Thanks.

Yup. That and the bothersome cold starting issues, which I've just learned is usually caused by dirty fuel injectors and the need for a fuel/induction system cleaning.
And don't forget the absurd square cupholders in the 95-96s. What genius thought those up?

maxes rules.. all you need for the front is the 97-99 bumper and grill.. headlights and corner lights are otpional.. u can buy both the bumper and grill on ebay for about 130-140 total. the ebay bumper looks and fits great but its made of some not so great quality urathane..it scraches easily over bumps.

if you want to do the headlights too.. they run about 140-160 ebay. i havet hem, fit is great. quality if good. corner lights are about 45 bucks for both.

paint for the front.. (hood, fenders, bumper, grill plus blending) should be around 600

the rear.. u need the rear bumper, rear trunk, and tailights
