Crank position sensor
Crank position sensor
i pulled a code for a Crank position sensor the other day, and I couldn't find any info on it (yes i tried the ECU decoder, no help). Can someone tell me where to buy one / how to replace this? thanks.
You have 2 Crank position sensor one at the crank pulley on the bottom of the timing chain cover and the other I think is on the bell housing ( I haven't fooled with this one so don't know exactly where on the bell housing it is. Buy a Haynes manual all the info you need is there.)If you pulled the code it should tell you which one is bad.I know if it's the one near the crank your car shouldn't even start just turn over and not fire if the sensor has completely stopped working. The crank senser near the pulley is to easy access and change the other I have not messed with.
Check the codes again the REF crank sensor is at the crank pulley mounted on the oil pan not the timing chain cover(I need to pay attention to what I'm typing) and the POS sensor is mounted on the oil pan near the transaxle bellhousing or as 95 stillenmax said where the transmisson bolts to the motor. You will probably have to crawl under the car or put it up on a lift to get to this one. Also check your flywheel and make sure you are not missing any teeth as the POS sensor reads off of those while the REF reads off the crank pulley itself. Check the crank pulley and make sure the nipples that stick out on the back ring on the pulley are not missing there should be 3 of these 2single and 1 double.Hope this helps. If everything looks ok you will need ohmmeter to measure the voltage to check and see if the sensors are faulty.
