My first maxima

I am 19 years old and i recently purchased a pearl white 99 maxima se. I dont know to much about this car and all of my friends have mustangs and camaros, so they are no help. I was just wondering what basic mods will get me the most performance gains for my money. Also suggestions on some nice wheels and tires would be great.

drive the car around for half hour and dont turn it off while waiting in line for inspection, the pipe remvoes the pre cats, once the car is warmed up, theres no longer a need for the precats and the catalytic converter is now the catalyst cleaning the air, you'll pass inspection then

Stillen and Cattman are too expensive, because they are all pretty much the same. The others are just a brand name that is maybe more recognized.

Most people get the www.budgetexhaust.com one because it is very well made and cheapest. However, if Warpspeed is having a group deal, they are usually a little cheaper. I got mine there in a group deal, and I love it. He runs them from time to time. The last group deal was for $160 shipped. That is an aluminized steel mandrel bent pipe with all gaskets.

Another suggestion is to go to a local muffler shop and pay them about $50 to custom bend you a pipe from your cat back to your stock muffler that is 2.5" in diameter. Take off your stock resonator or keep it on if you want it a little bit quieter. Keep your stock muffler on there, where as it does not really add enough to matter when replacing the muffler. You can spend a few hundred on a muffler for like 1hp at the most if you want to, but I wouldn't recommend it.

After you do all this, you will have a Maxima that does not look or really sound any different, but you will be about 15-20 hp stronger.
These are the strongest mods you can do until you get Supercharger or Turbo.

Reprogrammed ECU, Mevi, underdrive pulley, suspension (prob lots of other stuff) could also be done before making that big jump to a supercharger.

Congratulations for the Maxima. In my opinion, it is a better car than a Camaro or a Mustang. The MAx is marketed as a family sedan, but as you will see on this forum, it can be easily modified to become an agressive car. It already has an electrifying and most reliable engine.

Nice choice of color

wheel-wise IMO I like the way 5th gen wheels look on our 4th gens, but to each his/her own. I've seen a few pics of ppl putting 18" 6th gen SE rims or even those from a G-35, or a 350Z on thier 4th gen

I was being a smartass Bru hahaha notice the --->
I put the 5500 cause well.... i luv my car enough not to shift at redline in every gear driving it to work everyday. (insert smartass comment here) but if some punk in his sportscar comes alongside me on my way to work and gives me "The look"...... well...thats a different story all together for another thread...... muahahahahaaa

Pizzaman has a 99 so an reprogrammed ecu and mevi would probably not be the smartest choice for his car right now. If i were you go with a stronger suspension some Illuminas in the front and AGXs in the back paired with some H&Rs.

...well, for starters you can tell your friends how badly you will whoop on them with this "grocery sedan" of yours, provided of course that you bought a 5-spd, otherwise

fine, so also provided that it's no Cobra's or SS's that you're racing

Uhm...about the only ones he'd 'whoop' is the 6cyl versions. Sure, he'd be able to hang with a few of late 80's GTs, but most of them wouldn't worry too much about the 'grocery sedan'.

Back on topic: I'd go for the y-pipe first...hands down. It's, by far, the best mod for the Maxima.
