The Vehicle Identification Number will not help. Look for a transaxle model designation on the identification tag.

RE4F04A = automatic
RE4F04V = automatic w/LSD

RS5F50A = 5-speed manual
RS5F50V = 5-speed manual w/LSD

thanks

i got a prob tho, i never got to see the donor car that the tranny came out from. I know all the transaxle codes but i cant find any on the tranny itself. Only a VIN number...
i picked up an axle seal for an LSD tranny and its different then the non LSD trany seal and it doesnt fit up in my tranny so thats why i think its the wrong one...crap

LSD is Limited Slip Differential. It provides a traction advantage which may be important in winter driving conditions or in a racing situation.

limited slip diff. makes sure that one of ur tires does not spin in the mud/snow etc while the other tire does nothing. It also induces braking in the wheel that is slipping producing power to the wheels that has traction. Thus punching the gas in a turn trying to induce drifting is sorta hard to do with cars with traction control and LSD This is according to the Lexus sales man that was trying to sell me an is300 with the LSD option.

Ok i guess the traction control is doing the braking not the LSD. I stand corrected. =)
