leased vehicles???

is it true that people who lease cars just beat the crap out of them and give them back or do you need to take better care of the car because you are giving it back????

I'd say its true on both cases ... some ppl figure "hey, the car isn't mine" just rag the hell out of a leased car anyway, while others take care of thier leased car like it's thier own ... I had a '98 Altima GLE, leased in '98, I took immaculate care of it despite 2 accidents that were out of my control, turned it back in Fall '01 like it was a brand new car

People beat the crap out of lease vehicles. Their mindset is "hey, its not mine. Lets do donuts in it!"

A car turned in with two accidents was like brand new??!

I know 7 people in the office who have turned in leased vehicles, ranging from Honda Accords to a BMW 740il. In each case a subcontractor/lackey showed up at the office to get the car and close the ppwk. 0/7 had to pay for dents or extraneous wear. I guess it's a good situation when you have a high $ vehicle, you don't have to feel bad about the abuse and damage to the vehicle as you would if you owned it. What part of leasing do people not understand? Do you care or feel sentimental when moving out of an apartment? Again, there is the human factor, some people do take immaculate care of an apartment because they happen to live there. When you drop 2700/mo in Manhattan are you gonna trash your 1-bedroom? So I would guess the more expensive the vehicle the more the lease is gonna not be trashed. But a Maxima? Fuggetiboudit.....

Your playing a game of dice with any used car especially ones off of leases. You might get lucky and get a previous owner who brought the car in for all its maintence or who has it all its records but I woudl recommend you purchase a car from a fellow enthisuaist on this site or purchase a car from a little old lady hahahah..

Research is your BEST friend. Carfax is the best thing that happend to cars since fuel injection :P

NEVER buy an ex-lease or fleet rental!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I travel A LOT, as do most everyone I know in my field; if you had any idea as to the attitude folks have towards rentals, you'd RUN AWAY from ever buying an ex-Hertz, National, Enterprise, whatever.
It's a case of; Let's see how fast I can fly over those railroad tracks? How many potholes can I hit? Car's cold, let's rev it up and drive in 1st as fast as we can to warm it up... and so on.

The folks I know that lease their cars - regardless of value - take the exact same "don't give a rattsazs attitude" towards their cars. You'll recognize them as the ones who driver their BEEMERs and Boxters in the sh&t%est of weather for instance.

It's like the other poster said; the differance between renting a home/apt vs. owning a home/condo is like night/day.

All JMHO

Carfax is OVERRATED. It's OK at best. I don't know why people just don't ask their insurance agant for the history of any vehicle. My friend had a car he bought thinking it was never in an accident according to CARFAX. Later to find out from his agent it was in 2 accidents.

My friend leased a Chevy Blazer a couple of years ago. When the lease was about the run up, they beat the crap out of it. Donuts and burn-outs galore. I asked him why he's doing it, and he had the same 'It's not mine!' attitude.
I'd look really carefully of the condition of an ex-lease before considering one.

Heck, I remember see an old Integra with a 'For Sale' sign that was running over the medians in a parking lot

Its really sad how immature and dumb people can be towards their cars. So what if its not yours, have you ever heard of respecting the things you own and use?

liqidvenom, your dad sounds like a real sorry guy. I bet his trailer is a dump also.
Really, the way you treat other's property is generally indicative of how you treat your own posessions. I may not have the nicest stuff in the world, but I do take care of it. Whats worse is that you dad knows that somebody else will be purchasing the vehicle and still he beats the hell out of it. No respect..

How sad for him.

I'm renting an 04 altima right now because some **** sideswiped my car around 2 in the morning a couple weeks ago while it was parked in front of my house and did not leave a note or stop by to say he did it. Hit and run all the way and he was probably drunk as well to swerve all the way across the road into my car. There goes my $250.00 deductible because some d|ck who hit me on accident was not man or woman enough to own up to their mistake and make it right.

At any rate, I'm renting this altima and treat it as if it were my own. Its not nearly as nice as my 03 max, but gets much better mileage. Its a respect thing though. I want the next person who rents this car to enjoy it as well as I do and not cause them any problems. I had to put a qt of oil in this altima because it was low as well and aired up 2 of the 4 tires because they were underinflated, but I would treat my vehicle the same so whats the diff?

i just did a carfax on my car 3 weeks ago and found out it was a lease car before i got it in december from a used car dealership. it doesn't seem like it was beat up or anything. the car has not given me many problems besides normal maintenance items. i guess some people take care of their lease cars. my mom leases saturns and treats them like she bought the car and payed cash for it in full. i myself would beat up lease cars, cause like it's been said "it ain't mine so what do i care?" but then again, i know how it feels, cause i used to work at a boat rentals and had to fix all the boats that people beat the living crap out of cause they obviously didn't care.

well, let's put it this way, I followed up on maintenance and religiously washed & waxed my '98 Altima GLE when I leased it a while back, so I've had compliments from ppl that it looked and drove like brand new and even though I had 2 accidents and most ppl knew about it, nobody could tell when they looked at and rode in it

if you will put "/" in front of the last QUOTE, it will show up as one.

I have seen some lease vehicles come in when I worked in sales at a dealership that were in really good shape. They were very well taken care of.

Leased cars are more likely to have the odometer rolledback. People don't want to pay for the extra mileage. I know some one who use to disconnect the trany pick up. Plugged it in to put at least 11K miles a year on it for State Inpections. Got rid of the car with about 50k more miles on the car than the odometer.

No surprise there ... a while back, one of my friends had a '97 Ford Expedition and we went on a trip to Cedar Point, the whole time he unplugged a fuse so his gauge cluster wouldn't work, esp. the odo., this wasn't the first time he did that, everywhere he drove, he intentionally pulled the fuse so the odometer wouldn't work .. there was only rare cases where he left the fuse alone
