AE Headlight Mod

Did the AE headlight mod yesterday. Used black metallic flake paint. Coulda been darker. Doesn't help with my crappy '95 headlight lenses. Farily simple procedure except for removing the aiming screw from the top of the headlight. My neighbor accidentaly broke the braket on the light the aimer clips into, but nothing some JB Weld couldn't fix. Well, as usual...comments, suggestions are welcome.

You didn't do the corner lights did you? If you're planning on doing them I reccomend you spray the entire reflector inside.

nah, haven't really considered doing the corner lights yet. They would come apart the same way as the headlights, yes? if so, it might be something for me to do next week. thanks for the suggestion. wouldn't it lose all of it's reflectivity if i painted the inside completely black?

Same procedure. Those lights are pretty useless. On the 95-96 they get brighter when you turn on the blinkers but not on the 97. Wouldn't make much of a difference if you make the bulb brighter.

well i did the mod to make them brighter anyways by clipping the one nub and putting it in the other way. yeah, i know they are useless, but i like how bright they are now, and if i paint it, wouldn't it lose some of it's light?

Probably. But if the bulb is bright you'll still see it. Just throw in some amber bulbs to make it look nice.

i "ae'd" my cornerlamps and headlights also but the cornerlamps you can barely notice. it matches tho if you look closely. at certain angles its more noticeble than some. as for losing reflective ability, you dont really need it. just as long as a light is emitting from the assembly youre set to go. ive never seen this so i dont know what im talking about. give it a try.

thanks guys, this was my first attempt at a major cosmetic mod like this and i am very pleased. the only thing i'm disappointed about it the crappy glass lense compared to the 97-99 Max, and the color i used should have been darker. but overall, i think it turned out pretty good.

im just confused on exactly what parts to paint and how far in the line should be. Also couldnt we just use glass black paint? or does it have to be the "AE" color?

i need feedback..

thanks,

Ant

I don't have a closeup of the headlight but this should give you an idea of where to paint:

The headlight housing is made of plastic so you can use the appropriate kind of paint and in any color. Black seems to be the majority in the org.

I did my corners completly black, it looks soo much better, and you can still see the light in the corners. At night its even better, it makes the headlights LOOK brighter since the corners are dull, but it looks nice.

i think it would have turned out better if i didn't have the crappy 95-96 lenses, and if i put a couple more coats on to make them darker. i think i'm just gonna find the money to get smoked cefiro headlamps and not have to deal with any painting.
