Water Temperature and Oil Pressure Guage Readings? What should they be?
Like the topic says, what are you guys reading for Water Temperature and Oil Pressure? I read about 20-25 psi at idle for Oil Pressure and about 50 psi when driving steady and about 80+ at WOT. As for Water Temp Im at about 130-160 after thermostat opens. Let me know how Im doing.

I don't know about Oil pressure. I assume you have an aftermarket gauge for that. As for temp gauge I regularly read 178-190 depending on conditions. On a 1.5hr drive on Sunday I leveled out at 183 the whole way. I have a brand new radiator and of course new coolant. My old one was kinda blocked up in the front and the coolant was old but I guess the thermostat would compensate.

You water temp sender needs better grounding. The reading is off. The themostate opens at 180F. Oil pressure depends on your engine's RPM. I believe at idle after it's warmed up should be around 10psi or 15psi. I need to double check that with my FSM.

How do you guys know oil pressure? My Auterra sure as hel! doesn't do it. I'm kinda p!ssed actually. So, you saying I need to add another groundwire to the thermostat. Which wire is the ground. I can check and see if its corroded or chaffed or anything.

bump...Should I reground the water temp gauge ground? Or am I suppose to ground the temperature sensor itself? because right now I only have a signal wire hooked up the temp sensor.

I'm interested in this also. Where exactly is the temp gauge? I'm skeptical that mine could be off that much because I was running 189 last night. Is the thermostat different from the temp sensor? Details? Please.

First of all...everyone that has aftermarket water temp gauge ie. Autometer, greddy..should be using the sender that came with the gauge. The sender should be screwed into a metal part. If it's not, you need to ground the body of the sender to a metal part via wire. You can spot weld the wire or use JB weld.

That is not unusual. A hot engine idling at standstill relies solely on the cooling fans to reject heat. On a hot day it's going to result in a higher coolant temperature than while moving. Back in the day before cooling systems became as efficient as they are now, it was not uncommon to have to turn the heater on full blast on hot days to keep the engine from overheating when sitting still or moving slowly in traffic jams. Even now I hate to use the AC on really hot days out of sympathy for the engine. My kids think I'm nuts.

I find turning on the AC helps the cooling system at standstill because that extra fan spinning on the AC condensor also cools off the radiator.
