There was a ticking noise coming from the engine, could be something with the valves, think I'm gonna need a new engine?

 

Probably just your fuel injectors...

 

Normal...thats your fuel injectors working when you dont hear that noise, then your in trouble

i had a ticking sound from the time chain and valves....had excessive valve play....i just replaced thwe engine with one with 47k miles....450 shipped + 1300 and 1 week to install....it would have been 1000 to fix old engine!

 

^^^ what was the 1300 for? did you pay a shop to install it?

where is the ticking sound coming from? how loud? can you hear it from inside the cabin?

 

This is very very common in the car world even maximas have this. Its nothing to worry about it.

You can get your valves cleaned and adjusted if you are really worried about it. Most mechanics will tell you to just do the following.

1) Use higher grade fuel
2) Use higher grade motor oil.
Check the fluids/liquids forum for suggestions on which oils to use.

turns out the bearings were gone...new engine with 50k on it put in today, max should be ready tonight
