This may seem like a bonehead question, but do the gxe, gle and se use the same struts. The reason I ask is cause i was cruising junkyards lookin for some used struts. I know the se has a firmer suspension so the strut design might be different? i dunno.

I am pretty sure the GXE and GLE struts are the same but the SE's are different. I think the springs are the same through out all the models.

i own one

I believe the GLE/GXE struts are the same--that is a way to cut the cost down in manufacturing. I do also think that the GLE is a glorified GXE. I would say the model with the most personality is the SE...
just my two cents...

By the same token, you could say the SE is a sportier GXE. =)

We're all Maximas with different options.

You are right. Furthermore, the Infiniti I30 is a dolled-up Maxima GLE.

Yes, different struts

I replaced my susupension awhile back, and did some researching on this. The GXE/GLE struts are the same (i.e. same part #'s: GXE/GLE RF:5430231U89 LF:5430331U89 Rear:5621031U26) and the SE has a different set of stiffer struts (SE RF:5430240U85 LF:5430340U85 Rear:5621040U26).

The front springs are the same regardless of the model designation, they are only different if the car is an auto (540104L809) or a manual (5401031U23).

The rear springs for the SE is different as well (stiffer). GLE/GXE rear springs (RR:5502038U24, LR:5501938U24):: SE rear springs (RR:5502041U23, LR:5501941U23).

So this should set this inquiry to rest. Hope this helps.

Re: Pasted-on glamor

totally agreed, Dan.
All I wanted when I started looking for the car was 97+ SE with a bose...and I have to say the auto climate control in my car looks nice...but ahh...
simplicity I think is the best...

I think honestly Nissan did a great job in seperating the different trim levels but across the board, the cost of manufacturing and their sharing of similar parts is quite a smart manufacturing/marketing ploy.

Or you could say a Maxima is a ripped off version of a Nissan Cefiro{AKA I30}.
