Hard driving

When I push the car for extended periods of time it tends to get sluggish. Would a tranny or oil cooler help? Whats happening to the car when it acts like a slug?

KS is fine. When I first start the car it reall punchy and has lots of power. After stop and go driving or hwy driving for extended periods at 80mph+ it gets sluggish.

I have a Injen CAI, Warpspeed Y-pipe and Greddy Catback. My car is cali spec.

I get the same thing, but mine is not a cali spec , I have tried everything, and yes my KS is good. The only thing I can thnik of is that the injectors in the back of the engine are getting hot, with them being buried under the intake manifold.

Yeah it sucks. It feels like the back of the car is scraping the ground or something.

Somebody put an Rx-7 oil cooler in. Its linked from a thread called FMOC in this forum (not sure where it linked to--probably general). Can an OC really make much of a difference on stock or lightly modded cars? The one who did it was SC'd.

Any cooler will help in your car's performance for entended periods of time. A lot of the time the hoses that have pressure running through them,ie, coolant hoses, vacuum hoses, etc, usually expand a lot during heavy acceleration so to rememdy that you would need to upgrade your hoses with silicon or other higher pressure hoses. I did this to my Max over spring break and notice that my car doesn't lag as much anymore due to the better hoses. Just a thought but this task is tedious! Start with the coolers and if there is still sluggish driving change out some hoses. Good luck...

You can buy the hoses off CustomMaxima.com or any other parts store like Checkers or Pep Boys....Nappa charges too much but they also have them available....the best part is you can get the different colors to compliment your engine compartment...

It is simple....when your car is hot like that, you are then sucking in hot air into your engine and not cooler. It is unevitable when running a long time without an intercooler.

The engine does not like the hot air.
It is kind of like a huge fart going into the engine.

Who's talking about hot air and intercooler's? The whole discussion was about oil/tranny cooler's.

Sorry, just sounded like you were recommending the use of an intercooler which wouldn't be practical for an NA car. Guess I just misunderstood.

Hmm... would a CAI lessen this problem? LOL. I sound like such a newbie here.

It could be the injen, it is sucking in scalding hot air after the car is warm.

I considered that. especially with all the controversy about the Injen. But the air can't be any hotter in an Injen than anything else. I know it's located behind the radiator but I imagine more air turbulence down there than up near the top of the motor. I do recall my other 4th gen being more responsive with the Stillen than the Injen. Anyone got a Stillen for sale?

Well i dunno about you guys but I am going to go over my car with a fine toothe comb this week. I am going to test each injector, each coil, MAF, TPS........ect
I will also be making my own grounding kit, as I have a TON of 8 gauge wire left from my old cars sound system. So I will see were that takes me.
