How much can the Max tow?

I just bought a Seadoo Jetboat, and I was curious about the towing capacities (if any) of a Maxima. I would tow it with my Jeep (5.7 litre), but I'm having the transmission replaced and some other services, so it will be in the shop for a few more weeks.

The boat is 2100 lbs, 18'3" in length. Tounge weight of the trailer is 100 lbs.

If the weight is within reason, is it a good idea to attempt to tow it with a stock automatic transmission, or should I add a tranny cooler?

Thank you,
belosic

Odd, my manual says 1200kg if its a trailer with breaks. That works out to be around 2646 pounds according to Google. Why would a US spec Max be able to tow less then an NZ spec Max?

That's what I thought too... the trailer has trailer brakes, so stopping isn't a problem. I know that with my Jeep, if the trailer has brakes the towing capacity almost doubles.

Probably not as many money-hungry lawyers down there...

heh, true

Back when the car belonged to my parents and they didn't have the Patrol, Dad once towed a 5000kg trailer and roller from and to a hire place for about 60km each way. Thats about 11 023lb over 75miles. Apparantly handled fairly ok, but it's not something I would be doing, I'd hate to think what would have happened had he needed to stop in a hurry...

pretty interesting thread, I actually never thought about my Maxima's towing ability. I too hope to own a boat one of these days, but nothing too big, in fact - a small cruising speedster.

Lol, I find that funny The NZ Maxima is suppose to have a little less power then the US spec one too, yet it can only tow 17% of the weight a NZ spec Max can .

Hook that boat up to your Max and take it to the water

It's probably because NZ is in the Southern Hemisphere. Since you're on the opposite side of the earth, gravity is going the opposite way so stuff is lighter down under.

Hidden hitches's hitch states 2000 tow, 100lb tounge. I tow that around quite often with no problems at all.
