What do you think of this max? Good deal or no?

Hey guys. I just bought a max, and i wanted to see what everyones opinion of it was. If i got a good deal or not.

Details -
1995
SE
5 Speed, Sunroof, Power seats locks windows, manual climate control its got 131,000 Miles on it. A lot of new parts including new front axle, complete tune up, and a bunch of other misc stuff. Its got a few minor battle wounds from driving (little scratches here and there) But it looks really clean. It also has 17" Rims from a 99'
The guy is offering me a 30 day warranty as well as a guarentee that it will pass Rhode Island State Emisissions and Inspections. Its dark green, with a tan interior, there is absolutly no rust on it except for a little here and there on the underside obviously. I got him down to $5,300. Good deal or no? I can still get my deposit back. Just wanted to get the Org's opinion. Thanks!

new front axle? this doesn't sound like something that would ever need replacing unless in an accident.

CV Joint. At 131,000 miles, it's not a surprise.

$5300 actually sounds a little bit high for a 95. I bought my 95 SE last year with 111k for 4200. I thought at the time I got a really, really good deal; so your price isn't horrible. Also, I had to spend about a grand getting both CV's replaced, alternator, and front wheel bearing. If everything checks out and you like the car, go for it... but try negotiating a little more...

those rims are actually off a 2K2, not a '99

that price is a bit high for a '95 w/ 131K on it, if you can get the price down a bit more, then it would be a good deal ... looks like it's in great shape for a '95

you might also want to run a carfax

Nada value for that max is 4,420 on the high retail side, so 5,300 is a fair deal given the condition, parts, work done the car, ability to pass inspection, and warantee. I would get the carfax done and since you have a 30 day warrantee being offered, take it to another mechanic and get it check out. If they find anything, use your warantee to get it fixed. Bottom line go for it but do the checking for peace of mind.

...or you could go the ebay route. there is a:

96 GLE Auto at 4 grand with a day left
97 GXE Auto for 5,500 (buy now) in very good condition with 89,000 miles.
98 SE Manual with 127,500 for 6,250 (buy now)

I dunno, just another option to consider.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6400

Get that one.. You get what you pay for..

GLE's highest model
SE Sports edition
GXE lowest edition or the essential edition.

Do your reasearch.

I agree, with all of the new parts and being that it is a 5 speed which is hard to find, I think you have a good deal. It is never a bad idea to try to negotiate a little more though.

Seems a bit high for the miles if you paid that price.

I paid $5,300 for a 96 GLE with 109,000 Miles. The car was in an accident. It was hit from behind according to the police report. That's the price I paid a year ago. A year later, I change the 02 Sensor and EVAP.

My tires got slash, but that's another story.

It doesn't sound like a bad deal at all.
I mean, those wheels would run you like $400 or so here on the .org. That puts you right in line. If the rubber is decent on them, it is a pretty good deal.

You take what you can get when you are looking for a 5spd. I would say that he is not way out of line. Talk him down another $300 or $400 or so, and you have yourself a deal. He is obviously not going to sell you some shoddy stuff if he is guaranteeing that it will pass inspection. Isn't it pretty tight around that area?

If you drove the car, and it rides nicely, try those things out, but don't let that one get away from you. I mean, it might be quite a while before you get another 5spd to come your way that looks pretty good like this one.

Just some advice.
I used to sell cars, and it is all a game of probability.
The biggest question that has to be answered is, "Are you happy with the price, and is the seller happy with the price?" If so, it is a good deal. A good deal is in the mind of the parties envolved. If both perceive that they are getting enough for their money....it is good. Some of a good deal is relative....not constant...esp with cars. Now, yes, there are general rules that you should not be fine with him selling this to you at like $12000 or something, but you get what I am saying.
