Hey, I got out of my car tonight and looked behind and saw a small trail of oil behind my car. It turns out that my oil pressure sending unit is leaking.. I haven't heard many stories of this part failing, but has anyone ever had it leak? How do I replace it? Good thing it only costs $10..! Thanks..

mine is sloooowly leaking. Not even ehough to get a puddle. Anyways, you need a special socket to loosesn the switch. Its called an "oil pressure socket".

my mechanic said that my oil pressure switch needs to be replaced so i guess its the same thing.i do notice periodic drops under the car.

Its soooo easy. You just gotta use a big deep drive socket to get it out, or maybe even vice grips if I can remember correctly. It is located right near the oil pan.

Just unhook the electrical harness and remove the unit. Make sure you have something to catch spilt oil once the unit is removed. Screw in the new one and replace the harness. It also might help to clean the area. Oh, and make sure that the connections on the electrical harness are clean too.

I used a deep socket, frank (motorvate) used vise grips or something. FYI the one I got at autozone didn't look like the one on motorvate or on my car so I got one at another store (don't know if the autozone one would have worked or not).

Well I got it replaced for $9, and all is well

werd mine leaked i changed it but it leaks more now

^^Make sure it is all clean and screwed in tight.

I got mine at advanced auto parts and it was a smaller size as the stock one. It still worked fine though.

Nissans are notorious for the oil pressure sending unit leaking... I always inspect mine when the car is up on a lift.

Did you apply some sealing material on the threads of the sensor? Some sensors come with a dab of that material already applied on these, others dont. You may also wrap the threads with some teflon tape, same as the one used in plumbing jobs when connecting pipes. I also use teflon tape for connecting my garden hose. Works great at sealing.

I'm just glad I wasn't the only one with the problem, but its wierd how I was driving normally, then all of a sudden, it decides to leak, and theres really nothing that warns you, just whenever you happen to get out of the car and see oil on the ground.

Yeah, that's where I ended up getting it too. Mine was the same size though.

Mine leaked and craped out on me not too long ago. Then I found out it wasnt the sensor that was leaking, its part of the block right over the right side axle, its seeping all around the axle and oil pressure switch...
