Odometer not working, what could be wrong?

I just purchased a 1995 maxima and the odometer isn't working (see the main forum for the whole story).

The speedo, tach, and temp gauges still work fine (not sure about gas).

Could there be a blown fuse that causing the odometer not to work?

Maybe a broken cable or something?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The odometer is driven by a tiny stepper motor controlled by the ECM - there is no mechanical linkage like the old days. This little motor has probably failed on your car. Mine died this way at about 86K mi.

The fix is to remove the instrument cluster and replace the speedometer head unit. I paid $190 for the part including the fee for the dealership to have the new speedo's odometer set to match your current one (required by the dealer I worked with).
