So i live in colorado and we just got hammered w/ some good sized hail that damaged thousands of cars around my area. So i went to the peak nissan dealership and they had the perfect car the one i always wanted it was a 98 SE 5-spd fully loaded, leather, bose, temp control, and the works. The only yproblem is that it has 94k miles on it and the hood and roof are destroyed (well i can live w/ it) because of the hail. The dealership said they will take of 3k of the price to 5800 dollars. Personally i think i can get more off and i will offer 4500 OTD hopefully. What do you think, is it worth getting 94k miles and some hail damage for 4500otd. Tell me what you think. Also how easy would it be to remove some of the dents on the sides (not too many) I hear dry ice works. thanks

 

Dood. I work at a car dealer. They probably paid 5K for it in the first place. Thier NEVER going to sell that car. Start low with your offers and if you have to... work yourself up. DON"T be intimidated by them (Salesmen). Go get em!

well you can just get a CF hood (duh) and just get a bodyshop to pull the dents in the roof if their not too deep

 

Imagine if you tried to trade in a car with 94K and bad hail damage. They wouldn't give you much at all for it. Some cars are "totaled" by insurance companies if they have severe hail damage. It might be cheaper to get a hood off of a parts car. This would look bad, but some cars get a carriage/vinyl roof to cover up hail damage. I don't recommend that on a Maxima though. I think you could find a 5 grand 100K mile Maxima-More easily a 97 than a 98. But that might be a better idea. Unless you get this one really cheap-at least then you'd never worry about any more hail damage!

 

so are you gusy saying go less than 4500 for an offer out the door? Or even start lower? Its the car i always wanted, my dad knows a good friend w/ a body shop and i can always and i am thinkin bout a CF hood anyways =]. It has one owner too. The car is in great condition, interior that is =]. BTW they didnt buy the car w/ the hail damaged just yesterday it hailed and damaged it. so final verdict?

 

Hmmm I say go in... offer them 3,999 and repeatly tell them that thier not going to sell that car and GAIN money. Either you get it or its going to an auction to be sold at wholesale price. Plus the dealership should have a dent crew that can take care of you. Ask about that too. Make it seem like THEY NEED your money. Again... good luck

 

Get a couple of estimates first of all. Figure out how much some dent removal will cost. Talk to your insurance company about it's value unfixed. Get an appraiser if necessary, though that is a little extreme. Price a junkyard or CF hood. Look at cars.com or autotrader.com for all of the Maximas in your area and America, and decide if that is really a good value. Also, just in general, have an independent mechanic look over the car to see if their is anything wrong with a 97K mile used car. Remember, they will probably have to wholesale that car, and 6 year old cars with 100K miles and tons of dents don't bring much money. I'd look for an undamaged 97+ SE.

 

sounds like a steal to me if you can get it for around 4k, i just bought a 99.5 se loaded in perfect condition with 75k for 10350...anyway i you can find a dent wizard guy (or whoever you got around there) you can ask him if he will do stuff under the table for you. i install sunroofs in cars and we dent roofs once in a while and we have this guy that does them for like 20$ a dent (company policy for them is minimum for 100$ per dent) so keep your eyes open. good luck

 

Well i kept the car overnight and it is leaking oil ( a pretty good amount too) Now what do you guys think? with the fixed oil leak is it worth 5k OTD

 

if it's leaking oil from the tranny, beware of a future rebuild (over a $grand).
that hailstorm was sick. i saw the guy from 9news broadcasting from Peak Nissan in front of half dozen 6th gens with no glass left!

 

Honestly i wouldnt go for it if its leaking oil.

I personally wouldnt buy a car at all from a dealership but thats just me.
