Megan Catback and Warpspeed Install - Pics
Megan Catback and Warpspeed Install - Pics
Figured I'd post some pics of my setup ... the only drawback is that it's super loud at cruising speeds (drone), but I'll get used to it. Sounds wicked awesome at WOT though =)
Over 4000RPM it feels like a completely different car, it just pulls like a freight train all the way to fuel cut

Images should work now ... sorry bout that.
As far as quality goes, it's really excellent. All the welds look good, the flanges are thick and secure, all hardware was included (with gaskets) and it bolted right in - perfect fitment.
It's all stainless too, and it appears that the resonator and inside the muffler are stainless as well.
On a scale of 10 .. I'd give it a 9. The drone at highway speeds makes it not perfect
I can probably take better pics from underneat the car tomorrow if it stops raining.

You're going to regret this in a couple weeks. Neal had the megan crap and tossed that garbage away. Just from looking at it you can tell it sounds terrible. The muffler is a tiny fart can, the resonator seem very slim. This cat back really sounds as much as a nast 4 banger as any cat back for the max. I know how it sounds at WOT and you saying you like it is very surprising. Have you even heard what is sounds like from the outside?

2.5 or 2.25?
To be perfectly honest, I'm never outside the car when it's in motion, so I don't care
Besides, sound quality wasn't my goal ... performance is. And I have acheived my expected results from the setup, so I'm happy with it.
But, on the other hand, I have a 7 month old son to hink about in regards to interior sound level. So, he won't be seeing any long distance travel in the max - that's what my c230 is for.
The piping is 2.5"

As for the piping being 2.5", I'm VERY skeptical about that. I doubt it's more than 2.25". Maybe OD it's 2.5".
Calm down 1FSTMAX. You're right, it matters that he likes it. I just said what I did so that everyone else doesn't think it's good sounding exhaust, cause it's not. Unless the driver still has the silencer in. In that case it's not bad but also the power gain from it is cut in more than half.

I've been to megan racing before, and they said that all their exhausts for the maxima are 2.5" but I dont know if its true.. Also that muffler needs to be angled to look good IMO..

i bet the drone wouldnt really be there with the silencer in im thinking about getting the obx exhaust and scrapping my axle back just to get a full system in there, not sure if i want to just yet, might want rims, but i dont like the design of this exhaust well the muffler part mostly so i wouldnt get it, even tho the price is very nice
It's much more quite with the silencer in, however I don't use the silencer for 2 reasons.
1) When you let off the throttle, the silencer makes the inherent "buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" of the canister style muffler even more apparent
2) the silencer itself rattles, no matter how tight you tighten the screw to hold it in. I tried shimming it, etc, I couldn't get it to stop rattling.
Those 2 things I find even more annoying than the overall "loud as ****" factor so I don't use the silencer.
I didn't notice any performance difference gains from exhaust alone are probably only a couple hp, i'm sure there was something but nothing i could feel.

My catback (SP2) was a bit loud when I got it; I think it's an inherent problem of removing the precats from the y-pipe and using an aftermarket catback. The addition of a resonator to the b-pipe was sufficient to quiet my exhaust note to acceptable levels.

Being as i am also in the market for an exhaust.i don't have many options which are affordable. i would love to get the greddy SP and don't mind spending there $500 but they don't yet produce it from the 97-99 maxes. so another thought i had was to get a An exhaust like the megan racing and then replace the muffler with a Magnaflow Muffler of a better style. but then i am assuming the exhaust is 2.5 inches but all the nice aftermarket muffers i could find are 2.5 inlet so that kinda makes no sense to me. but what can you do?

As far as being angled, the tip is cut with a slight angle. I'm not a big fan of having the whole muffler angled, save very few cars ... silvia, skylines, supra's, etc.
At least it doesn't sound like a civic
But, for $350 shipped, I can't really complain. Especially since the build quality is as good as higher end cat back's like GReddy (and it's ALL stainless).
I measured my Megan racing when I got it and there is no question it is 2.25" inner diameter. My outer diameter was 2.5". If yours is 2.5" inner diameter then it looks like they started using larger piping.
And another thing, I don't think my exhaust sounds bad at WOT. It is loud as hell, but it doesn't sound like a small displacement 4 cyl does. It is definately a very agressive sound, and I don't mind the tone at WOT (though I wish it werent as loud). It's the drone during normal driving and the buzzzzzzz when i let off the gas that drives me insane about it. The buzz sounds very "4 cylinder-ish" There are vids of my car online I will see if I can find them, I can't remember if you can hear my exhaust well or not since I raced some pretty loud cars I think.
I will have my buddy send me a vid in which you can hear the exhaust. The 2 vids he sent me (my best passes) are against cars with cutouts or no exhaust at all and you can't hear my car.

I thought that it was there to clear a bracket that is not really needed and can be removed if your aftermarket catback hits it?

straight slim cannons like that have to be angled..
