A Quiet Preformance exhaust
#6
Magnaflow is straight through and tends to be rather moderately loud than quiet. I decided against it at last minute and decided to throw in 5th gen muffler (coupled with 2,5" B-pipe with Magnaflow resonator).
EDIT: Subject says Performance Exhaust - meaning Y-pipe is present in this formula too, right?

Back to the initial thread: Some sort of y-pipe, b-pipe and stock muffler.

I agree w/ LEMAR, Y-pipe, resonated B-pipe, and stock muffler would probably work best for what you're looking for.
I have Budget Y and B pipes and everyone who rides in my car gives compliments on the exhaust note which is barely noticeable while cruising but gets more agresssive once I get on the throttle.
Besides if you go with this combo (Y and B pipes), which would set you back $375-400, you're more likely to save some $ over brand name catbacks.

After reading some posts about the GReddy SP & Cattman catbacks, I was curious to see what ppl are saying about both, I've even read about the Stillen exhausts, any good/bad reviews on those?
When the time comes for me to get a new exhaust system, I too am w/ sagemistse on something as quiet as stock but enough to give a hint to someone that I mean business and someone suggested the Cattman, will that give me what I'm looking for, along w/ replacing the stock muffler w/ another stock muffler?

I just had a Buget Y-pipe installed yesterday. Wowzerss! I am not into a lot of noise and don't have it now. Possibly a B-pipe is on the horizon as the pipe behind the stock resonator is pinched. I have read here that I might as well get the B-pipe fabricated rather than buy from the Maxima piranhas. Any advice is welcome!

the greddy sp is kinda loud but not too bad. I just know that im thinking about just getting a stock muffler to see if that helps reduce the noise. I like my ride to be quiet. Now all i have to do if find a used 4 gen muffler

being as he is a 97-99 like myself we don't have alot of options from what i have read the general census is the apexi WS and greddy SP are both great exhaust but neither of which are mad for our cars ,97-99 which leaves not many options. the cattman exhaust is very expensive when compared to the greddy or the apexi. b pipes and muffler combos aren't always easy to pick or "tuned" to sound the way you would like it. basically your not going to get a "Quiet performance exhaust" there is no way. its a situation where you have to give up one thing to get the next. you want a quiet exhaust you stay stock,. what you need is an exhaust you can live with. and will give some performance gains. what i am going to do is buy a Megan racing catback exhaust which looks like great quality and is all stainless 2.5 piping. then i am going to find a nice muffler and replace the coffee can that is on there. all i need now is a muffler with a 2.5 inlet...

ZACK, since when is the SP not made for the 97-99? The SP2 isn't, the SP is/was.

I'm not getting you at all. I said "ZACK, since when is the SP not made for the 97-99? The SP2 isn't, the SP is/was." I don't get it. The SP2 is for 95-96 while the SP IS for 97-99. I said was because they don't make them and I said is because it is designed for the 97-99.

Just got from the shop today. My priority is/was to be quiet too. I got WS Y-pipe, which is 2" from headers and then 2,5" at the cat. From the cat it's 2,5" piping, then goes 2,5" Magnaflow resonator and out of it pipe is 2,25", which goes into 2" 5th Gen muffler. It is stock quiet and performance-wise I believe I might be loosing 3-4 hp at the top compared if I went 2,5" all the way to the muffler with 2,5" inlet (say Magnaflow).
I am happy with setup and that 3-4 hps don't play that much role cause I almost don't race and don't go to the track, but for everyday driving that's more than suffiicient.
