Climate Control? Also Man/Auto Interchangeable?

I have two questions....first is the manual and auto climate control for a 96 maxima interchangable? Can I just remove the manual and replace with an automatic one from another 96?

Second - my car currently has no low fan (speeds 1-3), but does have the high fan working. Fuses look ok...any suggestions.

Any and all comments appreciated...

Check the fan relay's there are 3 of them 2 for low speed & 1 for high speed.

You may be able to utilize the auto climate control but it won't be easy to make it work, not plug and play type of thing.

One thing to consider is that the auto has a temp sensor in the middle of the top the dash (where it meets the windshield). Another, the wiring would probably be a pain but I'm not sure about this.

1. Not an easy swap. Involves installing a few sensors around the dash and additional wiring, I think.

2. There's a post in the FAQs about the bad switch problem. You need to replace a resistor. Doesn't cost too much.

1. You can (i.e. its not impossible) add auto-climate control, but its not practical in terms of time/cost/things that could go wrong type of thing.. there are a million other pieces/sensors/controllers needed for the AUTO climate control - it is not just a swap out of the control unit.

2. You have a blown resistor pack - located near the front passenger side of the car, near the blower motor, under the glovebox...

Please read the stickes on how-to, FAQ and mods... a lot of the common questions are answered in there.

Hope that helps.

this is all in the FAQ's, but to answer your ?'s -

1) It's possible, but I wouldn't waste your time or the $$ since there's a whole lot of work besides swapping the manual for the auto controls, there's also the wiring and sensing equipment that has to be routed and installed

2) Your blower resistor has failed, and this is why you are getting only speed #4

I was wondering about this as well. Has anyone w/ manual climate tried to simply hook up an automatic climate unit to their dash, or are the connections different entirely? I'm not at all concerned with the unit actually controlling the temperature automatically, maybe it could somehow be used manually? I just like the way it looks.

You'll need to accumulate 15 posts before you can make a thread. Meanwhile, now that you're a member, you can do a search here on the org without needing google. Search under 5th generation 2000-2003 for better results though.
