coil pack help!

I went to change my spark plugs and when I pulled the coil pack out it seperated between the long pencil shape and the boxy part, There was just a little spring inside, it appears the previous owner did this, it came apart with little effort, Do I need to replace it? It seems to run slighly rough now.Can it be fixed. Will it get worse? Any help thanks

no symptoms

I was just wondering what to do if I DON'T have any symptoms. I have the same problem on one of the front coil packs, it broke when I was replacing the spark plugs and I put everything back together to see if it would work. It actually ran better than it ever has (previous owner never changed spark plugs) but should I be nervous now that the coil is clearly broken. Thanks!

That is no major issue:

http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...hins-fail.html

With it reassembled just wrap electrcal tape around the boot to keep it firm.

Sounds like your talking about the end that attaches to the spark plug, OEM ones are sealed on with a small amount of silicone, but to remove the plugs, I pulled the little end cap thing off to get them out. Coils are cheap if you can get them used on the ORG. I get all 6 for $25 shipped, and they had less miles so I just swapped all the rear ones, and thats when I found a coil area thing, the long shiny part where the coil goes, full of oil..... Thus giving me a reason to get a MEVI and Spacers

I think I might be there, drove it to New Hampshire last night, serious stuttering at low RPM, mostly when idling at red lights. Is there some way to reattach the spring so the stem is connected with the coil again? I just put them on top of each other and tightened the screws...

The little research I did on Maxima before buying was learning about the next generations coil problems. I take it the 95-99 are a little better. Haven't touched mine since purchase, so far, so good.

is your CEL light on? if so, get your codes. you will likely have to replace that coil. maybe others.

I did actually and that's what concerns me. At the base of the coil in the picture there's enough of a nipple I guess you might call it, to attach the stem and spring to. I chagned the other 5 without removing the stem, and this one broke clear off, even the nipple. I think I just broke a good coil pack

I've broken that nipple off the transistor base before. Without that plastic nipple the stem won't firmly mount onto the base. I replaced it with a used OEM coil I purchased from another member.

I think I will have to do that, I'm not ready to drop $ on six new coils yet. Thanks everyone for your answers
