Is the Service Engine Soon light the same thing as the CEL "check engine light"?

I've never had either one go off until 2day my Service Engine Soon light came on b/c I was messin w/ the drop resistor and when I turned my car on it came on....

My CEL comes on when I turn my car over after I've gone WOT due to the DR mod; every time without fail so I have to reset my ECU more frequently than I'd prefer.

Don't you have the RPM switch installed?

Me? Nope; I just have the normally-closed switch that's positioned by the throttle linkage and activates at WOT only.

Everyone refers to it as the Check Engine Light, but it reads Service Engine Soon? kinda weird, well I justed rigged up the single pole switch b/c I dont plan on using very often.

THT-which wire did you splice it into? I spliced the red & green one......

Honestly, I don't remember. I just clipped one and Jime says it doesn't matter which you clip and mine works great.
