Emergency help needed with Knock sensor install on a 99

i would highly suggest that you do not stick your hand in there unless you have small, little, itty-bitty child hands or else you'll get stuck or cut yourself on the sharp unfinished edges of the intake plenum. I found that it was easiest with an assortment of universal swivel joints and very long extensions. get the kind of universal joint that does not bind. My concern, however, was the torquing of the bolt when installing the new one. the KS operates on piezoelectric principles so I was kinda curious if bolt torque would be a factor in the KS's performance. but so far so good, everything seems to be working fine. sure beats ripping apart the intake assembly.

good luck!

I found it so easy to take the KS off with a long FLEX head ratchet gear wrench. I bought a whole set of 8 pcs from sears for $59 buck to fill up my tool box, but you can buy only one just for your need. It doesn't take more than 15 minutes to get the job done. Good luck

ok maybe you guys arent listening but 1999 maximas are the only ones with the swish valve in the way! I have still not found this thread everyone speaks of but those of you who responded yes it is hard but you don't have a giant swish valve in the way that makes it virtually impossible to get to.....i couldn't even see it until yesterday when I took apart my air system to clean the throttle body and actually saw it.....

I already said there was a thread just for the 99 with the swish valve in the way. You're the one who isn't listening.

Well where is it?? I have looked like 15 pages back and there is a page ABOUT the swish valve and how to take it to a dealer and get charged $100+ but there was no thread describing how to work around/move the swish vavle............

Guess you're not looking hard enough. Here, page 11, http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=315851 .
It's for a 99 cali spec. They have more **** in the way than any other max. If this doesn't help you buy a bicycle.

yes....very easy if you don't have the swish valve in the way.....thanks D... ran across that post a while back but thought the person had an earlier vehicle or something....not quite sure how i missed that but there is even some miscommunication there....looks like ppl with years other then 99 have an easier time....i bet they dont have the swish valve in the way.

You litterally have no room to cram your hand down there in my 99...even with the battery and air intake out you can BARELY see it....

I wish i lived on the east coast.....everyone here in colorado wants to charge $100+ for the install....im not sure I could do the installation myself....seems like it is too tricky!
