Would bogging the engine trip Knock sensor?

I have a 5speed and was driving today and forgot that it was in 2nd gear and tried to go from almost a stop when by the time I realized it wasnt in 1st gear, the engine was bogging around 200 RPM for a couple seconds.

I went home and checked the ECU and shure enough I got a 0304 knock sensor code. I reset the ecu so its cleared and hopefully wont come back.

Question- do you think that boggin the engine that low of an RPM can cause knocking and trip the knock sensor code?

ok thanks, wonder what might have caused it then. I always use 91 octane but the car is 7 years old with 55k on it. I re-checked the ECU after a 15 min drive and the code hasnt come back yet.

They just go bad, like anything else. You might try checking the harness with a voltmeter to see what kind of resistance you get. Wait a hundred miles or so and check the codes again.

A good knock sensor has how much resistance? 470k or 550k ohms? I read the FAQ and got different answeres from difference sources

The ECU doesnt store the code every time it detects knock.

It stores the code when the sensor gives out of range readings. Basically, if you get the code you can be 99.99999999999% sure you just need to replace the sensor.

Thank you.

Well, I drove around all day and rechecked and the 0304 didnt pop up but I guess I might have to replace the knock sensor anyways.

"bogging" an engine can DEFINATLY cause knock, it is one of the primary causes! However, I don't know if it would cause a CEL... but, maybe if it was knocking over and over despite the ECU quickly trying to compensate timing for it, maybe it would throw a code... One knock probably be fine, and the ECU would ignore it, but maybe repeated knocking in a short time period would do it... who knows... here is an article for anyone who doesn't believe me that bogging an engine causes knock... it is a very big contributor to knocking....
