Aftermarket Y-Pipe with factoy quietness is there a such thing ?????????

I will be buying a fourth gen in about a month and I want to purchase all of my mods before I get the car. Is there a y-pipe and cat back out there that is quiet. I hate any extra noise from the exhaust but I do want the hp gain.

the most quiet exhaust would need a stock muffler, either the 4th gen or better yet a 5th gen muffler. The Y alone doesnt add any nose under normal driving. Keep the cat and use a resonated B pipe. Cat backs only give 5-10 hp anyway so its really for looks and sound.

I just had a Budget Y-pipe installed on Thursday and one of my biggest concerns was no extra noise. At idle and cruising there is none. When accelerating in say 1st or 2nd at low levels there is a bit of a throaty sound and more so obviously at WOT, but not bothersome. I was on motorvate.ca today and I saw a procedure whereby you can use a couple of C-clamps and some heat resistant tape and wrap it around the Y-pipe. Apparently, it reduces noise levels and keeps the exhaust cooler, resulting in yet more incremental power.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Ok so if I get a y-pipe and cold air intake and leave the catback and muffler stock I wont have to worry about any additional exhaust noise.

All the noise comes from the catback and muffler.

The CAI will give you a nice throaty sound when you're going wide-open-throttle, and the y-pipe will have just a little gurgle to it. If you're just cruising, it will sound completely stock.

A y-pipe will inherintly be louder because a lot more air is moving through. You won't notice it so much as the ppl behind you. I'm putting on a 5th gen muffler just because the 4th gen sounds like *** with any extra CFM.

I'm sorry but any sort of intake will be louder. I cut out 2 panels of my stock airbox and it is easily twice as loud when I floor it.

But the best part is if you drive normally, conservatively, whatever - you will not hear a difference.

When you floor it, all hell breaks loose.

I love my Y, its quite and added a good deal of power. You will not hear it except around 1500rpms, and then its even not bad, no drone, just a throaty kind of sound.

I'm not into noise and the K&N panel air filter seems to work fine with my recently-installed Y-pipe. I don't want a CAI.

Yep. I have a CAI and WSP Y on my '93. Under Idle and light throttle or cruising conditions, it's just like a stocker. And like ScarfaceTHX said, hammer it and all hell breaks loose! It's not obnoxiously loud, just a throaty roar that will grab some attention!

i have a frankencar short ram intake, warpspeed y-pipe and magnaflow hiflo cat on my AUTo and u only hear it when u speed off....and thats only after 20 mph...then u notice it more after 65 mph....driving regular, u dont hear a thing.......also, the sound of the y-pipe is like an extended version of my intake, its masculine roar takes over. Very Sexy

I can't wait til I get my CAI and y-pipe, still trying to decide if its worth the fender cutting to go with the Place Racing style intake or the Injen style. But I'll definitely go with the Budget y-pipe once i get the money.
