If you own it, how do you like the Tokico Illumina/spring suspension kit?

Custom maxima sells this package of Tokico Illumina struts along with springs for $650, this seems like a good deal. And I have heard good things about the setup from the review on VQpower.com. It seems that they give a nice 1.5” drop that gets rid of the wheel gap, improve the handling of the car and eliminate body roll, yet are still smooth and provide and nice not too harsh ride. Sounds like a perfect spring/strut combo to me. Anyway could owners of this setup, or people who have ridden in a car with this setup comment on what you think of it and how you like it, thanks.

You can get it for $560 shipped in the GD forums (as soon as the person running it gets back from "the desert," meaning Iraq I would guess). You can also get the same deal from a ebay seller called jdmworks or something (find their contact info in that same GD thread). I would like to know what people think of this kit also though.

Got mine on eBay for $560 shipped from jdmwerks.
Love it! It lowers a bit more than 1.5"
I got a 1.625" drop in front and a 1.75" drop in rear with my car. I have a manual tranny and normal trunk (ie. no subs, but spare and jack are still there).
The ride height is now very even, and imo it looks great.
Also handles very well, and still pretty comfortable (though not like stock).
Get it, you'll love it!

Ive had this kit for a couple months now and I love it. Makes a world of a difference in terms of handling and looks. Make sure you check the condition of your dustboots too.

Did you re-use your dustboots, or did you buy aftermarket boots? If so, where did you get them?

Thanks!

If you have a 5-speed I'd go with Tein High-Techs and Illuminas. If you have an auto go with the all-Tokico suspension kit.

Does it has the same drop as the Tokico HP-blues kit?

Probably not, because the Blues cannot really handle a drop.

Why avoid the Tokico kit with a 5-spd? I have this set-up and ride height is dead even front and back. I love it!

Most I hear say that it is a little more even with the Tein H-Techs and the Illuminas.
That is all.

Good to hear. I got the TEINs because if anything, I wanted the back to be a little higher than the front. The TEIN High-Techs also sound like very good springs.

yes, from what I hear, they are.

It is not that they Tokico set is not good, just may not ride quite as level on the 5MT.

So tokico springs on blues will give a smaller drop than on illuminas?

Don't quote me on that.
I would just not think that the drop would be the same.
Everyone I talk to says that the Tokico HP's are stock replacement and are not really good with a drop.

I would suggest Tein H-Tech's with some Tokico Illuminas for a good handling drop with a lot of comfort. (this is based on what a lot of other people have said, and not myself actually trying it out.)
If you want more drop, a lot of people seem to really like the Tein S-Techs, but you will have to get into camber adjustment and all that jazz.

So HPs should not be used with any lowering springs?

I just want a little drop to improve handling/performance somewhat, nothing hardcore. Which springs, if any, go well with HPs for a small drop? Thanks.

FYI, there's a GD (ongoing, not really a group deal) on the Group Deals forum for TEIN S-Techs and High-Techs (they are not called H-Techs). $170 shipped for the High-Techs. Very good deal considering how new they are (brand ~!). Options Imports.

HP's should really only be paired with stock springs. They won't handle as well and will probably blow fairly quickly when lowered. Read this for general info: http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaHandling.
