Video of the new muffler and a weaksauce donut

My old muffler was rusting apart so I bought a 2K variable capacity muffler from another local org member.

Got it installed in about 5 min, and I like it. Not very loud (until I put b-pipe on ) but it sounds 100X better than the rusted up crap nugget it replaced. Looks pretty good too imo.

No fitment issues. Just centered the tip under bumper cut-out and welded it on. Almost bolted on - had exact same hangers and everything.

Couldn't resist doing a weaksauce donut pulling into the culdesac.

Variable-Capacity Muffler
More exhaust flow means more power. And usually more noise, too. Maxima solves this conundrum with a special muffler valve that stays closed at low rpm and only opens as you summon more power to accelerate, pass or climb a grade. The reason this muffler isn't available on just any car? It utilizes a super heat-resistant material (Inconel™) developed for jet engines.

lol muffler bearings

I'll get pics later after I clean / polish it.

I think it sounds awesome.... Hard to tell if that noise is all exhaust but still sounds sweet...

What year maxima's would have that muffler? I'd like to pick one up.... Also if you don't mind how much was it?

Anybody know where they sell them on the internet?

Were you using a HI8 camera by any chance? The vid looks pretty bad and the sound was bad as well. I like how it sounds and I want a 2k+ muffler but your vid doesn't really have good sound.

I didn't pay much at all. maximusprimus said he saw one for sale here in classifieds for about 5 times what I paid.

Most of the exhaust noise is probably a byproduct of the y-pipe. And when I am driving you are mainly hearing intake.

Slowly but surely I am replacing the rusted out exhaust. An aftermarket b-pipe with a high flow resonator will probably increase noise a lot.... which is why I got this muffler. My stock one was coming apart at the welds.

Yeah it's a Hi-8, but the crappy image and sound is because I have a crappy vid capture card, and then I compressed it more for the web.

Not sure which muffler is quieter. Neither is loud.

My guess is 2K-2K3 is louder because it's the same size, and has two outlets the size of a single 4th gen muffler.

lol @ bird comment

Dude that sounds so tight. Is the muffler responsible for any of that sound? I would get that just because it looks tight and then the y-pipe for the sound. You're max is nice, I like it. Sounds really aggressive too.

For those of you asking, all 5th gens have that muffler...as well as some I 30's and all I 35's too. If its got the dual tips then its most likely a VC muff....just dont confuse it with 2nd and 3rd gen muffs. Mufflers dont free up any more than 2-3 hp if any. They are for sound only.

Sounds pretty nice. Kind of hard to tell, the quality isnt the greatest.

This is the route I plan to go. 2.5" bpipe with a 5th Gen muffler.

I learned a valuable lesson today!

Check, double-check, and triple-check any wires or whatever that can come loose during stupid stuff like burnouts.

On the way to the store I spotted a civic hatch with sideways-visor types in it. I literally floor the pedal and decide to shut it down after 60mph. Well the car begged to differ.

GhettoHooptie63 (11:57:00 PM): i saw your away message earlier.. what happened with the car and the throttle?
ScarfaceTHX (11:57:23 PM): lol near death exp
GhettoHooptie63 (11:57:36 PM): damn
GhettoHooptie63 (11:57:39 PM): lol what did it do
ScarfaceTHX (11:57:41 PM): i guess i knockeed the power wire for my amp loose
ScarfaceTHX (11:57:52 PM): and out of ALL places it could have landed
ScarfaceTHX (11:58:00 PM): right in the throttle cables
GhettoHooptie63 (11:58:05 PM): oof
ScarfaceTHX (11:58:20 PM): i was doing like 70mph on happy vally when i realized
ScarfaceTHX (11:58:35 PM): and it took a few more sec to realize what was happening
ScarfaceTHX (11:58:44 PM): got it into neutral
ScarfaceTHX (11:59:02 PM): banged off the rev limiter about 300 times before i cut power at 55
GhettoHooptie63 (11:59:07 PM): damn
GhettoHooptie63 (11:59:22 PM): nice little way to break in the muffler i suppose :-\
ScarfaceTHX (11:59:26 PM): tried to start kept on revving then
ScarfaceTHX (11:59:47 PM): i realized its gotta be something stuck on the TB
ScarfaceTHX (12:00:09 AM): sure enogh the fuse for my power cable was holding down throttle wide open
GhettoHooptie63 (12:00:28 AM): damn
GhettoHooptie63 (12:00:35 AM): lol rough place for it to land
ScarfaceTHX (12:00:42 AM): lol
ScarfaceTHX (12:00:56 AM): good thing this car has leather seats j/k
GhettoHooptie63 (12:00:58 AM): it must have hit with some force to pull the throttle cable
GhettoHooptie63 (12:00:59 AM): HAHA
GhettoHooptie63 (12:01:05 AM): clean the **** off 8-)
ScarfaceTHX (12:01:55 AM): what happened im guessing is the fuse / power line landed at the bottom reach of the throttle at wide open and it wasnt until i floored it again that it caught
ScarfaceTHX (12:02:02 AM): it was just one side
GhettoHooptie63 (12:02:29 AM): i bet it was scary as hell
ScarfaceTHX (12:02:38 AM): is there a cable for each bank of cyl or how does that work? why are there 2 throttle cables?
ScarfaceTHX (12:02:41 AM): yeah
GhettoHooptie63 (12:02:50 AM): one of the cables is for cruise control
GhettoHooptie63 (12:02:52 AM): one is throttle
GhettoHooptie63 (12:02:55 AM): for pedal
ScarfaceTHX (12:03:04 AM): it was the one closet to battery
GhettoHooptie63 (12:03:25 AM): hmm i think thats the pedal
ScarfaceTHX (12:03:31 AM): yeah ME TOO
GhettoHooptie63 (12:03:33 AM): HAHA
GhettoHooptie63 (12:03:36 AM): yeah, i bet
GhettoHooptie63 (12:03:37 AM): heh
GhettoHooptie63 (12:03:41 AM): glad you made it man
GhettoHooptie63 (12:03:42 AM): lol
ScarfaceTHX (12:03:45 AM): yup
GhettoHooptie63 (12:03:47 AM): what time did that happen?
ScarfaceTHX (12:03:53 AM): **** like 7
ScarfaceTHX (12:04:10 AM): i got home and took a nap
GhettoHooptie63 (12:04:15 AM): atleast it didnt happen in the middle of the big *** storm we had
GhettoHooptie63 (12:04:28 AM): hauling *** in pouring down rain...... bad thing
ScarfaceTHX (12:04:42 AM): yeah if i hadnt had more space to correct
ScarfaceTHX (12:05:12 AM): it sounds easy to control but when ur car just starts hauling off at full throttle and you cant stop it
ScarfaceTHX (12:05:27 AM): its hard to think logically
GhettoHooptie63 (12:05:31 AM): nah i dont think it would be easy at all
GhettoHooptie63 (12:05:47 AM): youre in too big of a hurry to try to fix it to think logically
ScarfaceTHX (12:06:12 AM): yeah after 80 mph i said **** it and threw it in N
GhettoHooptie63 (12:06:24 AM): i dont blame you
GhettoHooptie63 (12:06:29 AM): motor running ok?
ScarfaceTHX (12:06:34 AM): then turned it off because it felt like the engine was gonna jump out
ScarfaceTHX (12:06:41 AM): yeah i made sure
GhettoHooptie63 (12:06:52 AM): good deal
ScarfaceTHX (12:06:59 AM): after securing that `29358325 701 cable
GhettoHooptie63 (12:07:04 AM): hahah
GhettoHooptie63 (12:07:11 AM): did it come loose during donuts?
ScarfaceTHX (12:07:19 AM): thats my hypothesis
ScarfaceTHX (12:07:47 AM): cause it went from battery to TB which was the dir it would have been tossed
ScarfaceTHX (12:08:02 AM): then just waited for me to hit the gas again
GhettoHooptie63 (12:08:22 AM): it was trying to kill you
